Neodymium Disc Magnet – 30mm x 10mm | N38

Powerful, compact, and engineered for professional applications, this Neodymium Disc Magnet measures 30mm in diameter x 10mm thick and is manufactured from premium N38-grade NdFeB (Neodymium Iron Boron) rare earth magnetic material. Delivering exceptional magnetic strength in a versatile disc profile, this permanent magnet is ideal for engineering, manufacturing, automation, product design, workshop fixtures, and heavy-duty DIY projects.

Neodymium magnets are the strongest commercially available permanent magnets, offering significantly greater holding power than ferrite, Alnico, or samarium cobalt magnets of comparable size. The 30mm diameter provides an excellent magnetic contact area, while the 10mm thickness delivers increased magnetic energy for reliable holding, positioning, clamping, and mounting applications.

This magnet is axially magnetised, meaning the magnetic poles are located on the two flat 30mm diameter faces. This orientation provides maximum face-to-face holding force when placed against a ferrous steel surface or incorporated into magnetic assemblies.

Protected with a durable nickel-copper-nickel (Ni-Cu-Ni) coating, the magnet offers excellent resistance to corrosion, oxidation, and everyday wear while maintaining a smooth, polished finish suitable for industrial and commercial use.

Why Choose an N38 Neodymium Disc Magnet?

The 30mm x 10mm N38 Neodymium Disc Magnet provides an excellent balance of size, strength, and versatility. Its thicker profile delivers greater magnetic energy than thinner disc magnets, while the 30mm diameter provides a generous contact area for secure holding. This makes it an ideal choice for magnetic fixtures, clamping systems, positioning applications, and custom engineering projects where dependable performance is essential.

Please Note

This is a high-strength rare earth magnet and should be handled carefully to prevent pinch injuries or damage caused by magnets snapping together. Holding performance is achieved under ideal conditions using a clean, flat, thick ferrous steel surface with full face-to-face contact. Actual magnetic strength will vary depending on the steel thickness, surface finish, air gap, and application.

Keep away from children, pacemakers, implanted medical devices, sensitive electronic equipment, magnetic storage media, and precision instruments. Avoid drilling, machining, excessive heat exposure, or heavy impacts, as these may permanently damage the magnet or reduce its magnetic performance.

Surface Treatment

The most common coating for Neodymium magnets is Nickel + Copper + Nickel (Ni + Cu + Ni). This coating offers the magnet relatively good protection from corrosion and passive applications. If the magnet will be exposed to moisture or liquid then consider the use of an organic coating such as Epoxy. A hard wearing coating, Epoxy is suited to applications where the magnet will come under some friction or knocking.

Range and Tolerance

Magnets are readily available in Blocks, Discs, Cylinders & Rings. We specializes in the supply of short-run prototype magnets including Arc Segments, various magnetic orientations etc. If you need a magnet size that we don't carry in stock, submit a Design-a-Magnet enquiry for a quote on your custom magnet design.

Magnetic Properties

Neodymium magnets are offered in several different grades. The first section N30-54 has an operating temperature of up to 80 degrees. Most of our stock only goes up to N38. The second section, denoted with the "M" prefix after the grade has an operating temperature 100 degrees. After this the grades are "H", "SH", "UH" & "EH". In order for the magnet to withstand a higher operating temperature, during production more of the raw material PrNd is incorporated as these elements have a naturally occurring resistance to high temperatures.

The Pull Force listed for each magnet is based on lifting 10mm thick steel from a horizontal surface. Magnets on a vertical surface (of 10mm thick steel) are generally able to hold around only 30% of the pull force listed in the product description. This is due to the effects of gravity and the lack of friction between the surface and the shiny magnet. Read More
