Neodymium Block Magnet – 3mm x 2mm x 5.6mm | N48 | Length Magnetised
The Neodymium Block Magnet – 3mm x 2mm x 5.6mm | N48 | Length Magnetised is a compact, high-strength rare earth magnet designed for precision applications where a powerful magnetic field is required within a very small rectangular footprint.
Manufactured from premium N48 grade neodymium iron boron (NdFeB), this permanent magnet provides excellent magnetic performance relative to its size. Its slim block shape makes it suitable for miniature assemblies, sensors, switches, electronics, model making, product prototypes, precision mechanisms, and other applications with limited installation space.
This magnet measures 3mm x 2mm x 5.6mm and is specifically magnetised through its 5.6mm length. This means the north and south poles are positioned on the two opposite 3mm x 2mm end faces, rather than on the larger side surfaces. Length magnetisation creates an end-to-end magnetic field that is useful for alignment, sensing, coupling, polarity-specific assemblies, and installation inside narrow channels or housings.
The magnet is protected by a durable nickel-copper-nickel coating, which provides a smooth silver-coloured finish and helps protect the underlying neodymium material from corrosion and everyday wear. Its precise geometry and high N48 grade make it an excellent choice for engineers, manufacturers, designers, and technicians requiring a small but powerful magnetic component.

Why Choose This N48 Length-Magnetised Block Magnet?
The N48 grade provides high magnetic energy density, allowing this very small magnet to deliver strong magnetic performance without occupying significant space. This makes it particularly valuable in compact devices and engineered products where size, weight, and magnetic output must be carefully balanced.
Its length-magnetised configuration distinguishes it from standard block magnets that are commonly magnetised through their shortest dimension. With the poles positioned on the 3mm x 2mm end faces, the magnetic field runs along the full 5.6mm length of the magnet. This orientation can improve performance in end-to-end coupling, linear sensing, narrow mounting channels, and polarity-specific component layouts.
The rectangular geometry also provides flat surfaces for accurate positioning inside housings, slots, tracks, and manufactured assemblies. When correctly installed, this magnet can provide dependable long-term performance in precision electronic, mechanical, and industrial applications.

Neodymium magnets are extremely powerful for their size and may attract nearby steel objects or other magnets unexpectedly. Handle carefully to prevent pinching, impact damage, or loss of small magnets.
Actual holding force will vary according to the thickness, grade, finish, and condition of the mating steel surface. Air gaps, coatings, uneven contact, misalignment, temperature, and sideways or peeling forces can significantly reduce magnetic performance.
Neodymium magnets are hard but brittle. Do not drill, cut, machine, weld, or allow the magnet to collide with another magnet or steel object, as it may chip, crack, or shatter.
Keep away from children, pacemakers, medical implants, magnetic storage media, electronic equipment, and other devices that may be affected by strong magnetic fields.

Surface Treatment
The most common coating for Neodymium magnets is Nickel + Copper + Nickel (Ni + Cu + Ni). This coating offers the magnet relatively good protection from corrosion and passive applications. If the magnet will be exposed to moisture or liquid then consider the use of an organic coating such as Epoxy. A hard wearing coating, Epoxy is suited to applications where the magnet will come under some friction or knocking.
Range and Tolerance
Magnets are readily available in Blocks, Discs, Cylinders & Rings. We specializes in the supply of short-run prototype magnets including Arc Segments, various magnetic orientations etc. If you need a magnet size that we don't carry in stock, submit a Design-a-Magnet enquiry for a quote on your custom magnet design.
Magnetic Properties
Neodymium magnets are offered in several different grades. The first section N30-54 has an operating temperature of up to 80 degrees. Most of our stock only goes up to N38. The second section, denoted with the "M" prefix after the grade has an operating temperature 100 degrees. After this the grades are "H", "SH", "UH" & "EH". In order for the magnet to withstand a higher operating temperature, during production more of the raw material PrNd is incorporated as these elements have a naturally occurring resistance to high temperatures.
