Neodymium Block Magnet – 50mm x 50mm x 12.5mm | N38

Engineered for exceptional magnetic performance, this Neodymium Block Magnet measures 50mm (L) x 50mm (W) x 12.5mm (H) and is manufactured from premium N38-grade NdFeB (Neodymium Iron Boron) rare earth magnetic material. With its large square profile and outstanding holding power, this heavy-duty permanent magnet is ideal for industrial, engineering, manufacturing, automation, research, and high-performance magnetic applications.

Neodymium magnets are the strongest commercially available permanent magnets, providing significantly greater magnetic strength than ferrite, Alnico, or samarium cobalt magnets of comparable size. The generous 50mm x 50mm contact face, combined with a substantial 12.5mm thickness, delivers high magnetic energy and a broad magnetic contact area, making this magnet ideal for holding, clamping, positioning, mounting, and magnetic separation applications.

This block magnet is axially magnetised, meaning the magnetic poles are located on the two large 50mm x 50mm faces. This orientation maximises holding force when placed against a ferrous steel surface or integrated into custom magnetic assemblies.

Protected with a durable nickel-copper-nickel (Ni-Cu-Ni) coating, the magnet offers excellent resistance to corrosion, oxidation, and everyday wear while maintaining a smooth, polished finish suitable for demanding industrial environments.

Why Choose an N38 Neodymium Block Magnet?

The 50mm x 50mm x 12.5mm N38 Neodymium Block Magnet provides an excellent combination of magnetic strength, durability, and versatility. Its large square faces maximise magnetic contact, while the increased thickness delivers greater magnetic energy for demanding industrial applications. This makes it ideal for magnetic fixtures, clamping systems, automation equipment, heavy-duty mounting, and custom-engineered magnetic solutions.

Please Note

This is a high-strength industrial magnet and should be handled carefully to prevent serious pinch or crush injuries. The powerful magnetic force can cause magnets or nearby steel objects to attract unexpectedly with considerable force.

Holding performance is achieved under ideal conditions using a clean, flat, thick ferrous steel surface with full face-to-face contact. Actual magnetic strength will vary depending on the steel thickness, surface finish, air gap, and application.

Keep away from children, pacemakers, implanted medical devices, sensitive electronic equipment, magnetic storage media, and precision instruments. Avoid drilling, machining, excessive heat exposure, or heavy impacts, as these may permanently damage the magnet or reduce its magnetic performance.

Surface Treatment

The most common coating for Neodymium magnets is Nickel + Copper + Nickel (Ni + Cu + Ni). This coating offers the magnet relatively good protection from corrosion and passive applications. If the magnet will be exposed to moisture or liquid then consider the use of an organic coating such as Epoxy. A hard wearing coating, Epoxy is suited to applications where the magnet will come under some friction or knocking.

Range and Tolerance

Magnets are readily available in Blocks, Discs, Cylinders & Rings. We specializes in the supply of short-run prototype magnets including Arc Segments, various magnetic orientations etc. If you need a magnet size that we don't carry in stock, submit a Design-a-Magnet enquiry for a quote on your custom magnet design.

Magnetic Properties

Neodymium magnets are offered in several different grades. The first section N30-54 has an operating temperature of up to 80 degrees. Most of our stock only goes up to N38. The second section, denoted with the "M" prefix after the grade has an operating temperature 100 degrees. After this the grades are "H", "SH", "UH" & "EH". In order for the magnet to withstand a higher operating temperature, during production more of the raw material PrNd is incorporated as these elements have a naturally occurring resistance to high temperatures.

The Pull Force listed for each magnet is based on lifting 10mm thick steel from a horizontal surface. Magnets on a vertical surface (of 10mm thick steel) are generally able to hold around only 30% of the pull force listed in the product description. This is due to the effects of gravity and the lack of friction between the surface and the shiny magnet. Read More
