Neodymium Block Magnet – 9.52mm x 6.35mm x 3.175mm | N52

The Neodymium Block Magnet – 9.52mm x 6.35mm x 3.175mm | N52 is a compact, high-performance rare earth permanent magnet designed for applications requiring exceptional magnetic strength within a small rectangular footprint. Manufactured from premium N52 grade neodymium iron boron (NdFeB), this block magnet provides an outstanding strength-to-size ratio for industrial, commercial, engineering and product development applications.

Measuring 9.52mm long x 6.35mm wide x 3.175mm thick (approximately 3/8" x 1/4" x 1/8"), this precision block magnet is ideal for compact assemblies where installation space is limited. Its rectangular profile makes it easy to incorporate into recessed housings, channels, fixtures, prototypes and custom manufactured components.

The N52 grade provides very high magnetic energy, making this magnet an excellent choice for applications where designers need to maximise magnetic performance without increasing the overall size of the component.

Why Choose an N52 Neodymium Block Magnet?

N52 neodymium is one of the highest commonly available standard magnetic grades, providing exceptional magnetic energy from a relatively small volume of material. This makes N52 magnets particularly useful for compact designs where a lower-grade or larger magnet may not be practical.

The 9.52mm x 6.35mm x 3.175mm dimensions provide a small, low-profile rectangular magnet that can be incorporated into precision-machined recesses, moulded components, housings and other compact assemblies.

This combination of small physical dimensions and high N52 magnetic performance makes the magnet suitable for engineers, manufacturers and product designers looking to introduce strong magnetic functionality while minimising component size and weight.

Industrial and Engineering Uses

The 9.52mm x 6.35mm x 3.175mm N52 block magnet is well suited to precision applications where component size is critical. It can be integrated into machinery, electronic products, fixtures, displays, closures, sensors and custom magnetic assemblies.

For permanent installations, the magnet can be bonded into a suitably sized recess using an adhesive compatible with the magnet's protective coating and the surrounding substrate. Avoid force-fitting neodymium magnets into undersized cavities, as the magnetic material is hard but brittle and can fracture under mechanical stress.

Please Note

Neodymium magnets are extremely powerful for their size and should always be handled carefully. Despite its compact dimensions, this N52 block magnet can attract nearby steel objects and other magnets suddenly, potentially creating pinch hazards or causing the magnet to chip if allowed to collide.

Actual magnetic holding performance depends on factors including steel thickness, steel grade, surface condition, contact area, air gaps and direction of force. Paint, coatings, adhesive layers and uneven surfaces between the magnet and steel will reduce effective magnetic strength.

Neodymium magnets are hard but brittle. Do not drill, cut, machine or weld the magnet, and avoid allowing magnets to snap together or strike hard surfaces.

Keep strong magnets away from children, pacemakers, medical implants, magnetic storage media and sensitive electronic equipment that may be affected by magnetic fields.

Surface Treatment

The most common coating for Neodymium magnets is Nickel + Copper + Nickel (Ni + Cu + Ni). This coating offers the magnet relatively good protection from corrosion and passive applications. If the magnet will be exposed to moisture or liquid then consider the use of an organic coating such as Epoxy. A hard wearing coating, Epoxy is suited to applications where the magnet will come under some friction or knocking.

Range and Tolerance

Magnets are readily available in Blocks, Discs, Cylinders & Rings. We specializes in the supply of short-run prototype magnets including Arc Segments, various magnetic orientations etc. If you need a magnet size that we don't carry in stock, submit a Design-a-Magnet enquiry for a quote on your custom magnet design.

Magnetic Properties

Neodymium magnets are offered in several different grades. The first section N30-54 has an operating temperature of up to 80 degrees. Most of our stock only goes up to N38. The second section, denoted with the "M" prefix after the grade has an operating temperature 100 degrees. After this the grades are "H", "SH", "UH" & "EH". In order for the magnet to withstand a higher operating temperature, during production more of the raw material PrNd is incorporated as these elements have a naturally occurring resistance to high temperatures.

The Pull Force listed for each magnet is based on lifting 10mm thick steel from a horizontal surface. Magnets on a vertical surface (of 10mm thick steel) are generally able to hold around only 30% of the pull force listed in the product description. This is due to the effects of gravity and the lack of friction between the surface and the shiny magnet. Read More
