Neodymium Cylinder Magnet – 12mm x 20mm | N50
The Neodymium Cylinder Magnet – 12mm x 20mm | N50 is a high-performance rare earth permanent magnet designed for applications requiring exceptional magnetic strength in a compact cylindrical format. Manufactured from premium N50 grade neodymium iron boron (NdFeB), this powerful cylinder magnet provides an outstanding strength-to-size ratio for industrial, commercial, engineering and OEM applications.
Measuring 12mm in diameter and 20mm in length, this neodymium cylinder magnet features a practical elongated profile that can be incorporated into drilled holes, tubular housings, machinery, automation equipment and precision-engineered components. Its combination of compact dimensions and high N50 magnetic energy makes it particularly suitable for applications where installation space is limited but strong magnetic performance is required.
This magnet is axially magnetised through its 20mm length, positioning the north and south poles on the two circular end faces. This configuration creates a concentrated magnetic field at each end of the cylinder, making it suitable for magnetic holding, sensing, positioning, switching and coupling applications.

Why Choose an N50 Neodymium Cylinder Magnet?
N50 neodymium magnets provide very high magnetic energy, making them an excellent choice when designers and engineers need powerful magnetic performance without significantly increasing the size or weight of an assembly.
The 12mm x 20mm cylindrical profile provides a useful combination of diameter and length for insertion into round holes, tubular housings and precision-machined components. Its elongated shape can provide secure alignment within purpose-built housings while maintaining a strong magnetic field at the circular end faces.
This makes the magnet a versatile component for engineers, manufacturers, automation specialists and product designers developing compact magnetic systems.

Industrial and Engineering Applications
The 12mm x 20mm N50 neodymium cylinder magnet is suitable for a broad range of professional applications, from automated machinery and sensor systems to custom fixtures and product assemblies.
Its round profile makes it convenient for integration into drilled or moulded cavities. For permanent installation, the magnet can be bonded into a suitably sized recess using an adhesive compatible with the magnet's protective coating and the surrounding substrate.
Avoid press-fitting the magnet into an undersized cavity. Neodymium magnetic material is hard but brittle and may crack when subjected to excessive mechanical stress.
Please Note
Neodymium magnets are extremely powerful for their size and should always be handled carefully. This 12mm x 20mm N50 cylinder magnet can attract nearby steel objects or other magnets suddenly, creating pinch hazards and potentially causing the magnet to chip or fracture if allowed to collide.
Actual magnetic holding performance depends on factors including the mating material, steel thickness, contact area, surface condition, air gap and direction of force. Paint, coatings, adhesive layers and other gaps between the magnet and steel surface will reduce effective magnetic attraction.
Neodymium magnets are hard but brittle. Do not drill, cut, machine or weld the magnet, and avoid allowing magnets to snap together or strike hard surfaces.
Keep strong magnets away from children, pacemakers, medical implants, magnetic storage media and sensitive electronic equipment that may be affected by magnetic fields.

Surface Treatment
The most common coating for Neodymium magnets is Nickel + Copper + Nickel (Ni + Cu + Ni). This coating offers the magnet relatively good protection from corrosion and passive applications. If the magnet will be exposed to moisture or liquid then consider the use of an organic coating such as Epoxy. A hard wearing coating, Epoxy is suited to applications where the magnet will come under some friction or knocking.
Range and Tolerance
Magnets are readily available in Blocks, Discs, Cylinders & Rings. We specializes in the supply of short-run prototype magnets including Arc Segments, various magnetic orientations etc. If you need a magnet size that we don't carry in stock, submit a Design-a-Magnet enquiry for a quote on your custom magnet design.
Magnetic Properties
Neodymium magnets are offered in several different grades. The first section N30-54 has an operating temperature of up to 80 degrees. Most of our stock only goes up to N38. The second section, denoted with the "M" prefix after the grade has an operating temperature 100 degrees. After this the grades are "H", "SH", "UH" & "EH". In order for the magnet to withstand a higher operating temperature, during production more of the raw material PrNd is incorporated as these elements have a naturally occurring resistance to high temperatures.
