Neodymium Cylinder Magnet – 50.8mm x 50.8mm | N50

Description

The Neodymium Cylinder Magnet – 50.8mm x 50.8mm | N50 is an exceptionally powerful rare earth magnet designed for demanding industrial, engineering, manufacturing and technical applications requiring high magnetic strength.

Manufactured from premium N50 grade Neodymium Iron Boron (NdFeB) magnetic material, this heavy-duty cylindrical magnet measures 50.8mm in diameter and 50.8mm in height, delivering an impressive 164kg rated pull force and 6,485 Gauss surface magnetic field strength.

Identified by AMF Magnetics Part Number C-D50.8H50.8-N50, this solid neodymium cylinder magnet provides substantial magnetic performance in a compact, symmetrical cylindrical form.

Neodymium magnets are among the strongest commercially available permanent magnets, making them an excellent choice for specialised applications where high magnetic force and efficient magnetic energy density are essential.

The substantial 50.8mm diameter and 50.8mm height provide a robust magnetic profile suitable for integration into custom magnetic assemblies, industrial machinery, engineering equipment and research applications.

With its high-performance N50 magnetic grade, this magnet offers exceptional magnetic energy density, making it suitable for projects requiring powerful permanent magnetic fields without the need for an external electrical power supply.

The 164kg rated pull force indicates extremely strong magnetic attraction under ideal direct-pull test conditions, while the 6,485 Gauss surface field strength demonstrates the concentrated magnetic field generated at the magnet's surface.

This combination of high magnetic strength, precise dimensions and permanent magnetic performance makes the magnet suitable for consideration in specialised engineering and industrial applications.

Potential uses include magnetic holding systems, custom magnetic fixtures, machinery development, magnetic separation assemblies, research equipment and technical testing.

Unlike electromagnets, this permanent neodymium magnet does not require electricity to maintain its magnetic field, making it a practical component for applications where continuous magnetic attraction is required.

Whether incorporated into a custom industrial assembly, magnetic research project or specialised engineering system, this 50.8mm N50 neodymium cylinder magnet provides outstanding magnetic performance for demanding applications.

Also known as a rare earth cylinder magnet, N50 cylindrical magnet, NdFeB cylinder magnet, heavy-duty neodymium magnet, industrial cylinder magnet, powerful permanent magnet or 2-inch neodymium cylinder magnet, this product is designed for users requiring exceptional magnetic strength and clearly defined technical specifications.

Important: This is an extremely powerful magnet capable of causing serious pinch and crush injuries. The 164kg pull-force rating is not a certified safe working load or lifting capacity.

High-Performance N50 Neodymium Magnetic Grade

The N50 magnetic grade identifies this product as a high-energy neodymium rare earth magnet.

Neodymium Iron Boron magnets are manufactured from an alloy containing neodymium, iron and boron, producing exceptionally strong permanent magnetic properties.

The N50 grade is commonly selected for applications requiring high magnetic energy density and powerful magnetic attraction within a relatively compact magnet.

Benefits of N50 Neodymium Magnets

Exceptional Magnetic Strength

Provides extremely strong magnetic attraction to compatible ferromagnetic materials.

High Magnetic Energy Density

Delivers substantial magnetic performance relative to the magnet's dimensions.

Permanent Magnetic Field

Maintains magnetic attraction without requiring electricity.

Versatile Engineering Applications

Suitable for incorporation into appropriately designed magnetic assemblies and technical equipment.

Compact Industrial Design

Offers high magnetic performance within a defined cylindrical form.

Exceptional 164kg Rated Pull Force

This neodymium cylinder magnet has a rated pull force of 164kg, making it an extremely powerful permanent magnet.

The rated pull force represents the magnetic attraction measured under specified ideal test conditions.

Magnetic pull force is typically determined by measuring the force required to separate a magnet from a suitable thick, clean, flat steel surface in a direct perpendicular pulling direction.

Factors Affecting Actual Pull Force

Actual holding performance may be reduced by:

  • Thin steel surfaces

  • Painted or coated materials

  • Rust or corrosion

  • Uneven contact surfaces

  • Air gaps between the magnet and steel

  • Curved contact surfaces

  • Non-ferromagnetic materials

  • Sideways or shear loading

  • Mechanical vibration

  • Elevated operating temperatures

  • Poor magnetic contact

Important: The 164kg rating is not a guaranteed safe working load or certified lifting capacity.

This magnet must not be used for overhead lifting, suspended loads or safety-critical holding applications without an appropriately engineered and tested assembly.

Powerful 6,485 Gauss Surface Magnetic Field

This N50 neodymium cylinder magnet has a specified surface magnetic field strength of 6,485 Gauss.

Gauss is a unit used to measure magnetic flux density.

A surface field of 6,485 Gauss indicates a strong magnetic field at the specified measurement location.

  • Magnetic research

  • Engineering experiments

  • Custom magnetic assemblies

  • Industrial equipment development

  • Magnetic attraction systems

  • Technical testing

  • Magnetic circuit design

Surface Treatment

The most common coating for Neodymium magnets is Nickel + Copper + Nickel (Ni + Cu + Ni). This coating offers the magnet relatively good protection from corrosion and passive applications. If the magnet will be exposed to moisture or liquid then consider the use of an organic coating such as Epoxy. A hard wearing coating, Epoxy is suited to applications where the magnet will come under some friction or knocking.

Range and Tolerance

Magnets are readily available in Blocks, Discs, Cylinders & Rings. We specializes in the supply of short-run prototype magnets including Arc Segments, various magnetic orientations etc. If you need a magnet size that we don't carry in stock, submit a Design-a-Magnet enquiry for a quote on your custom magnet design.

Magnetic Properties

Neodymium magnets are offered in several different grades. The first section N30-54 has an operating temperature of up to 80 degrees. Most of our stock only goes up to N38. The second section, denoted with the "M" prefix after the grade has an operating temperature 100 degrees. After this the grades are "H", "SH", "UH" & "EH". In order for the magnet to withstand a higher operating temperature, during production more of the raw material PrNd is incorporated as these elements have a naturally occurring resistance to high temperatures.

The Pull Force listed for each magnet is based on lifting 10mm thick steel from a horizontal surface. Magnets on a vertical surface (of 10mm thick steel) are generally able to hold around only 30% of the pull force listed in the product description. This is due to the effects of gravity and the lack of friction between the surface and the shiny magnet. Read More
