Neodymium Cylinder Magnet – 5mm x 5mm | N38 | Teflon Coated
The Neodymium Cylinder Magnet 5mm x 5mm | N38 | Teflon Coated is a compact, high-performance rare earth permanent magnet designed for applications requiring strong magnetic performance together with a low-friction, chemically resistant protective coating. Manufactured from premium N38-grade Neodymium Iron Boron (NdFeB), this magnet measures 5mm in diameter and 5mm in length, creating a balanced cylindrical profile suitable for engineering, automation, scientific equipment, and precision manufacturing.
Unlike conventional nickel-plated magnets, this cylinder magnet features a PTFE (Teflon) coating, providing excellent resistance to chemicals, moisture, corrosion, and surface wear. The Teflon finish also offers a smooth, low-friction surface that reduces abrasion and sticking, making it ideal for applications involving repeated movement, sliding contact, sensitive materials, or challenging operating environments.
The magnet is axially magnetised, meaning the north and south poles are located on the two flat circular ends of the cylinder. This configuration delivers maximum holding force when used end-to-end or against a ferrous steel surface.
With its compact size, reliable magnetic strength, and specialist protective coating, this magnet is well suited to OEM manufacturing, automation systems, laboratory equipment, electronics, robotics, and custom engineering projects.

Why Choose a Teflon Coated Neodymium Cylinder Magnet?
The 5mm x 5mm N38 Teflon Coated Neodymium Cylinder Magnet is designed for environments where standard nickel-plated magnets may be exposed to moisture, chemicals, repeated contact, or friction. The PTFE coating provides a smooth, non-stick surface that helps reduce wear while improving resistance to corrosion and many aggressive substances.
Its balanced cylindrical dimensions make it ideal for precision mounting, magnetic alignment systems, compact mechanisms, and moving assemblies where consistent magnetic performance and surface durability are equally important.

Please Note
This is a high-strength rare earth magnet and should be handled carefully. Strong neodymium magnets can attract steel objects or other magnets unexpectedly, creating pinch hazards or causing the magnet to chip if allowed to collide.
Holding force is measured under ideal conditions using a clean, flat, thick mild steel surface with direct end-face contact. Actual performance will vary depending on the material thickness, air gap, surface finish, mounting method, and operating environment.
Keep away from children, as small magnets present a serious swallowing hazard. Also keep away from pacemakers, implanted medical devices, sensitive electronic equipment, and magnetic storage media. Do not drill, machine, or strike the magnet, as neodymium is hard but brittle and may crack or fracture under impact. Although the PTFE (Teflon) coating provides excellent resistance to corrosion, chemicals, and surface wear, it should still be protected from excessive mechanical damage to maximise service life.

Surface Treatment
The most common coating for Neodymium magnets is Nickel + Copper + Nickel (Ni + Cu + Ni). This coating offers the magnet relatively good protection from corrosion and passive applications. If the magnet will be exposed to moisture or liquid then consider the use of an organic coating such as Epoxy. A hard wearing coating, Epoxy is suited to applications where the magnet will come under some friction or knocking.
Range and Tolerance
Magnets are readily available in Blocks, Discs, Cylinders & Rings. We specializes in the supply of short-run prototype magnets including Arc Segments, various magnetic orientations etc. If you need a magnet size that we don't carry in stock, submit a Design-a-Magnet enquiry for a quote on your custom magnet design.
Magnetic Properties
Neodymium magnets are offered in several different grades. The first section N30-54 has an operating temperature of up to 80 degrees. Most of our stock only goes up to N38. The second section, denoted with the "M" prefix after the grade has an operating temperature 100 degrees. After this the grades are "H", "SH", "UH" & "EH". In order for the magnet to withstand a higher operating temperature, during production more of the raw material PrNd is incorporated as these elements have a naturally occurring resistance to high temperatures.
