Neodymium Cylinder Magnet – 6.85mm x 15mm | N50M | High Temperature

The Neodymium Cylinder Magnet – 6.85mm x 15mm | N50M | High Temperature is a high-performance rare earth permanent magnet designed for applications requiring exceptional magnetic strength combined with improved resistance to elevated operating temperatures. Manufactured from N50M grade neodymium iron boron (NdFeB), this precision cylinder magnet delivers powerful magnetic performance in a compact, elongated format.

Measuring 6.85mm in diameter and 15mm in length, this neodymium cylinder magnet is well suited to industrial automation, sensors, electric motors, robotics, manufacturing equipment and custom OEM assemblies. Its narrow cylindrical profile allows it to be incorporated into drilled holes, tubular housings and precision-machined components where installation space is limited.

The N50M high-temperature grade combines the high magnetic energy associated with N50 neodymium with greater temperature resistance than standard N50 grades. This makes the magnet particularly useful for equipment and assemblies exposed to moderate heat generated by motors, machinery, electronics and industrial processes.

The magnet is axially magnetised through its 15mm length, positioning the north and south poles on the two circular end faces. This orientation produces a concentrated magnetic field at each end of the cylinder, making it suitable for magnetic sensing, positioning, holding, switching and coupling applications.

Why Choose an N50M High Temperature Neodymium Magnet?

The N50M grade is designed for applications that require both high magnetic strength and improved temperature resistance. Compared with a standard N50 magnet, the M-grade material provides greater resistance to irreversible magnetic losses when exposed to elevated temperatures within its specified operating range.

This combination makes N50M magnets particularly valuable in compact motors, sensors, actuators, automation equipment and other applications where heat may be generated during normal operation but strong magnetic performance must be maintained.

The 6.85mm x 15mm cylindrical dimensions provide a slim profile for integration into precision housings and narrow mechanical assemblies. The extended 15mm length also provides convenient alignment within drilled holes and tubular components.

High Temperature Performance

The M designation identifies this magnet as a higher-temperature neodymium grade compared with standard N50 material. This makes it suitable for applications where operating temperatures may exceed those recommended for conventional neodymium magnets.

Maximum safe operating temperature can also depend on the magnet's geometry, magnetic circuit and application conditions. For temperature-critical applications, the complete operating environment should therefore be considered when selecting a magnet.

Please Note

Neodymium magnets are extremely powerful for their size and should always be handled carefully. This 6.85mm x 15mm N50M cylinder magnet can attract nearby steel or other magnets suddenly, potentially creating pinch hazards or causing the brittle magnetic material to chip if magnets are allowed to collide.

Actual magnetic performance depends on the application, mating material, steel thickness, surface condition, air gap, temperature and direction of force. Paint, coatings, gaps and sideways or peeling forces can significantly reduce effective holding strength.

Neodymium magnets are hard but brittle. Do not drill, cut, machine or subject the magnet to heavy impacts.

Keep away from children, pacemakers, medical implants, magnetic storage media and sensitive electronic equipment that may be affected by strong magnetic fields.

Surface Treatment

The most common coating for Neodymium magnets is Nickel + Copper + Nickel (Ni + Cu + Ni). This coating offers the magnet relatively good protection from corrosion and passive applications. If the magnet will be exposed to moisture or liquid then consider the use of an organic coating such as Epoxy. A hard wearing coating, Epoxy is suited to applications where the magnet will come under some friction or knocking.

Range and Tolerance

Magnets are readily available in Blocks, Discs, Cylinders & Rings. We specializes in the supply of short-run prototype magnets including Arc Segments, various magnetic orientations etc. If you need a magnet size that we don't carry in stock, submit a Design-a-Magnet enquiry for a quote on your custom magnet design.

Magnetic Properties

Neodymium magnets are offered in several different grades. The first section N30-54 has an operating temperature of up to 80 degrees. Most of our stock only goes up to N38. The second section, denoted with the "M" prefix after the grade has an operating temperature 100 degrees. After this the grades are "H", "SH", "UH" & "EH". In order for the magnet to withstand a higher operating temperature, during production more of the raw material PrNd is incorporated as these elements have a naturally occurring resistance to high temperatures.

The Pull Force listed for each magnet is based on lifting 10mm thick steel from a horizontal surface. Magnets on a vertical surface (of 10mm thick steel) are generally able to hold around only 30% of the pull force listed in the product description. This is due to the effects of gravity and the lack of friction between the surface and the shiny magnet. Read More
