Neodymium Disc Magnet – 12mm x 10mm | N42

The Neodymium Disc Magnet 12mm x 10mm | N42 is a powerful rare earth permanent magnet designed for applications requiring exceptional magnetic holding force in a compact cylindrical form. Manufactured from premium N42-grade Neodymium Iron Boron (NdFeB), this magnet measures 12mm in diameter and 10mm thick, offering an excellent balance of size, strength, and versatility for industrial, commercial, engineering, and DIY applications.

Its thicker disc profile provides increased magnetic mass compared to thinner disc magnets, making it ideal for applications requiring greater holding power, deeper magnetic field penetration, and reliable performance. The magnet is axially magnetised, meaning the north and south poles are located on the two flat circular faces, providing maximum holding strength when mounted against a ferrous steel surface or stacked with other magnets.

Protected by a durable nickel-copper-nickel (Ni-Cu-Ni) coating, this magnet offers excellent resistance to corrosion, oxidation, and everyday wear while maintaining a bright, polished finish suitable for both indoor and light-duty outdoor applications.

Whether you're designing industrial equipment, manufacturing products, building magnetic fixtures, or creating custom projects, this 12mm x 10mm Neodymium Disc Magnet delivers reliable, long-lasting magnetic performance.

Why Choose a 12mm x 10mm N42 Neodymium Disc Magnet?

The 12mm x 10mm N42 Neodymium Disc Magnet combines a compact diameter with a substantial thickness, allowing it to generate a strong and concentrated magnetic field. This makes it particularly effective in applications where reliable holding force is required without increasing the overall footprint of the assembly.

Manufactured from premium N42-grade neodymium, this magnet delivers significantly greater magnetic performance than ferrite or ceramic magnets of a similar size. Its versatility makes it suitable for precision engineering, automation, magnetic mounting systems, display solutions, and general industrial use.

Technical Specifications

  • Coating: Nickel-Copper-Nickel (Ni-Cu-Ni)
  • Magnet Type: Permanent Rare Earth Magnet

Please Note

This is a high-strength rare earth magnet and should be handled carefully. Strong neodymium magnets can attract steel objects or other magnets suddenly, creating pinch hazards or causing the magnet to chip or crack if allowed to collide.

Maximum holding force is measured under ideal conditions using a clean, flat, thick mild steel surface with full face-to-face contact. Actual holding performance will vary depending on the steel thickness, air gap, surface finish, mounting arrangement, and operating environment.

Keep away from children, as small magnets can present a serious swallowing hazard. Keep away from pacemakers, implanted medical devices, sensitive electronic equipment, and magnetic storage media. Do not drill, machine, or strike the magnet, as neodymium is hard but brittle and may fracture under excessive impact or mechanical stress. For best performance and longevity, avoid exposing the magnet to corrosive environments or temperatures beyond its recommended operating range.

Surface Treatment

The most common coating for Neodymium magnets is Nickel + Copper + Nickel (Ni + Cu + Ni). This coating offers the magnet relatively good protection from corrosion and passive applications. If the magnet will be exposed to moisture or liquid then consider the use of an organic coating such as Epoxy. A hard wearing coating, Epoxy is suited to applications where the magnet will come under some friction or knocking.

Range and Tolerance

Magnets are readily available in Blocks, Discs, Cylinders & Rings. We specializes in the supply of short-run prototype magnets including Arc Segments, various magnetic orientations etc. If you need a magnet size that we don't carry in stock, submit a Design-a-Magnet enquiry for a quote on your custom magnet design.

Magnetic Properties

Neodymium magnets are offered in several different grades. The first section N30-54 has an operating temperature of up to 80 degrees. Most of our stock only goes up to N38. The second section, denoted with the "M" prefix after the grade has an operating temperature 100 degrees. After this the grades are "H", "SH", "UH" & "EH". In order for the magnet to withstand a higher operating temperature, during production more of the raw material PrNd is incorporated as these elements have a naturally occurring resistance to high temperatures.

The Pull Force listed for each magnet is based on lifting 10mm thick steel from a horizontal surface. Magnets on a vertical surface (of 10mm thick steel) are generally able to hold around only 30% of the pull force listed in the product description. This is due to the effects of gravity and the lack of friction between the surface and the shiny magnet. Read More
