Neodymium Disc Magnet – 200mm x 20mm | N38

Engineered for maximum magnetic performance, this Neodymium Disc Magnet measures an impressive 200mm in diameter x 20mm thick and is manufactured from premium N38-grade NdFeB (Neodymium Iron Boron) rare earth magnetic material. This extra-large permanent magnet delivers exceptional holding power, making it ideal for heavy-duty industrial, engineering, manufacturing, automation, research, and specialised magnetic applications.

Neodymium magnets are the strongest commercially available permanent magnets, providing significantly greater magnetic strength than ferrite, Alnico, or samarium cobalt magnets of comparable size. With its substantial 200mm diameter and 20mm thickness, this magnet offers an exceptionally large magnetic contact area and high magnetic energy, making it suitable for demanding holding, clamping, separation, lifting, and positioning applications.

The magnet is axially magnetised, meaning the magnetic poles are located on the two large 200mm diameter faces, delivering maximum face-to-face holding performance against ferrous steel surfaces or when incorporated into magnetic assemblies.

Protected by a durable nickel-copper-nickel (Ni-Cu-Ni) coating, this magnet provides excellent resistance to corrosion and wear while maintaining a smooth, polished finish suitable for professional industrial environments.

Why Choose a Large N38 Neodymium Disc Magnet?

A 200mm neodymium disc magnet provides an enormous magnetic contact area and outstanding holding force, making it suitable for applications where conventional magnets cannot deliver the required performance. The N38-grade neodymium material offers an excellent balance of strength, reliability, and durability, while the disc shape makes it ideal for magnetic mounting, clamping, positioning, and custom-engineered magnetic systems.

Please Note

This is an extremely powerful industrial magnet and should only be handled by experienced users using appropriate safety precautions. The magnet can generate very high attractive forces capable of causing severe pinch injuries or crushing hazards if handled incorrectly.

Holding performance is achieved under ideal conditions using a clean, flat, thick ferrous steel surface with full face-to-face contact. Actual holding strength will vary depending on the steel thickness, surface finish, air gap, and application.

Keep well away from children, pacemakers, implanted medical devices, sensitive electronic equipment, magnetic storage media, and precision instruments. Due to the high magnetic forces involved, suitable lifting equipment and safe handling procedures may be required during installation. Avoid drilling, machining, welding near, excessive heat exposure, or heavy impacts, as these may permanently damage the magnet or reduce its magnetic performance.

Surface Treatment

The most common coating for Neodymium magnets is Nickel + Copper + Nickel (Ni + Cu + Ni). This coating offers the magnet relatively good protection from corrosion and passive applications. If the magnet will be exposed to moisture or liquid then consider the use of an organic coating such as Epoxy. A hard wearing coating, Epoxy is suited to applications where the magnet will come under some friction or knocking.

Range and Tolerance

Magnets are readily available in Blocks, Discs, Cylinders & Rings. We specializes in the supply of short-run prototype magnets including Arc Segments, various magnetic orientations etc. If you need a magnet size that we don't carry in stock, submit a Design-a-Magnet enquiry for a quote on your custom magnet design.

Magnetic Properties

Neodymium magnets are offered in several different grades. The first section N30-54 has an operating temperature of up to 80 degrees. Most of our stock only goes up to N38. The second section, denoted with the "M" prefix after the grade has an operating temperature 100 degrees. After this the grades are "H", "SH", "UH" & "EH". In order for the magnet to withstand a higher operating temperature, during production more of the raw material PrNd is incorporated as these elements have a naturally occurring resistance to high temperatures.

The Pull Force listed for each magnet is based on lifting 10mm thick steel from a horizontal surface. Magnets on a vertical surface (of 10mm thick steel) are generally able to hold around only 30% of the pull force listed in the product description. This is due to the effects of gravity and the lack of friction between the surface and the shiny magnet. Read More
