Neodymium Disc Magnet – 3mm x 1.5mm | N50 | Pack of 100pcs
The Neodymium Disc Magnet – 3mm x 1.5mm | N50 | Pack of 100pcs is a bulk pack of 100 miniature rare earth permanent magnets, each measuring 3mm in diameter x 1.5mm thick. Manufactured from N50 grade Neodymium Iron Boron (NdFeB), these compact disc magnets provide high magnetic energy density in an extremely small, low-profile format.
With a diameter exactly twice their thickness, these 3mm x 1.5mm neodymium discs are well suited to applications where installation space is limited and a small magnetic component is required. The 100-piece pack is particularly practical for electronics, miniature product assemblies, sensors, models, precision mechanisms, prototypes, manufacturing and OEM production where multiple magnets of the same size and grade are needed.
N50 is a high-performance neodymium grade, making these magnets useful where strong magnetic performance relative to their compact dimensions is important. Their miniature size also means careful handling and secure installation are essential, particularly where the finished product could be accessible to children.
Also known as 3mm neodymium disc magnets, N50 mini magnets, micro rare earth magnets, tiny NdFeB disc magnets, miniature round magnets or 3mm rare earth magnets, these permanent magnets operate continuously without electricity, batteries or charging.

Pack of 100 Miniature N50 Disc Magnets
This product contains 100 individual N50 neodymium disc magnets, each measuring 3mm diameter x 1.5mm thick.
The bulk quantity is useful for applications requiring multiple identical magnets, including:
- Batch assembly
- Repetitive manufacturing
- Prototype development
- Small production runs
- Electronics assembly
- Model making
- Laboratory projects
- OEM manufacturing
- Custom magnetic products
Where magnets are being installed repeatedly into the same assembly, establishing a consistent polarity and orientation process can help reduce production errors.
3mm Diameter x 1.5mm Thick Disc Magnet
Each magnet has a 3mm diameter and 1.5mm thickness, creating a compact disc with a 2:1 diameter-to-thickness ratio.
This miniature geometry can be useful where:
- Installation space is extremely limited
- A low-profile magnetic component is required
- The magnet needs to fit inside a small recess
- Multiple magnets are incorporated into a compact assembly
- A discreet magnetic closure or positioning element is needed
- Component size needs to be minimised
The stated dimensions describe the physical size of each magnet and do not represent its pull force or holding capacity.
N50 Grade Neodymium
These miniature discs are manufactured from N50 grade Neodymium Iron Boron, a high-performance rare earth permanent magnetic material.
N50 provides high magnetic energy density, allowing useful magnetic performance to be produced from very small magnet dimensions.
This can be particularly advantageous for:
- Miniature electronics
- Compact product designs
- Small sensors
- Precision mechanisms
- Space-constrained assemblies
- Miniaturised magnetic components
What Does N50 Mean?
N50 identifies the magnetic grade of the Neodymium Iron Boron material.
The numerical designation relates to the material's maximum energy product and is used to classify the magnetic performance potential of different NdFeB grades.
The N50 designation does not mean each magnet has a 50kg pull force.
N50 also does not directly specify:
- Pull force
- Surface Gauss
- Holding capacity
- Safe working load
- Magnetisation direction
- Pole orientation
- Maximum operating temperature
These properties depend on the finished magnet and its magnetic circuit.
High Magnetic Performance in a Miniature Format
One of the principal advantages of neodymium is its high magnetic energy density compared with many conventional permanent magnetic materials.
At only 3mm x 1.5mm, these N50 magnets can be incorporated into applications where larger magnets would be impractical.
Potential functions include:
- Magnetic attraction
- Positioning
- Alignment
- Sensing
- Switching
- Small closures
- Component retention
- Product integration
Actual performance depends on the complete application rather than magnet grade alone.
Electronics and Sensor Applications
Miniature neodymium disc magnets can be useful in compact electronic and sensing systems.
Potential applications include:
- Hall-effect sensors
- Reed switches
- Position sensors
- Proximity detection
- Magnetic switching
- Movement detection
- Miniature instrumentation
Sensor response depends on factors including:
- Magnetisation direction
- Pole orientation
- Magnet-to-sensor distance
- Sensor sensitivity
- Installation geometry
- Surrounding magnetic materials
The magnetisation direction of these magnets has not been supplied and should be confirmed where field orientation is critical.
Miniature Closures and Product Assemblies
The small dimensions can also make these magnets useful for appropriately designed miniature magnetic closures and detachable components.
Potential applications include:
- Models
- Small cases
- Miniature components
- Product prototypes
- Display items
- Small removable panels
- Custom craft products
The holding performance of a magnetic closure depends on magnet orientation, alignment, air gap, opposing component and mechanical leverage.
For products accessible to children, miniature loose magnets present a serious safety hazard and must be securely retained.
Magnetisation Direction
Disc magnets can be manufactured with different magnetisation configurations.
A 3mm diameter x 1.5mm thick disc magnet could potentially be:
- Axially magnetised through its 1.5mm thickness
- Diametrically magnetised across its 3mm diameter
- Manufactured with another specialised magnetic configuration
The actual magnetisation direction and pole configuration have not been supplied and should not be assumed from the disc shape.
Confirm the magnetic orientation where pole position is important.
Magnetic Performance
Practical magnetic performance depends on factors including:
- N50 material properties
- Magnet dimensions
- Magnetisation direction
- Pole configuration
- Magnetic circuit
- Target material
- Target steel thickness
- Contact area
- Surface condition
- Air gaps
- Load direction
- Installation geometry
No specific pull force or magnetic flux density in Gauss has been supplied.
These values should not be inferred from the N50 grade alone.
Air Gaps Are Important with Miniature Magnets
Air gaps can significantly reduce magnetic attraction.
This is especially relevant for a magnet measuring only 1.5mm thick, because even a very small physical separation can represent a significant proportion of the magnet's overall dimensions.
Potential sources of air gaps include:
- Adhesive
- Paint
- Plastic housings
- Protective coatings
- Fabric
- Paper
- Product casings
- Mechanical clearance
Where maximum magnetic interaction is required, unnecessary separation should be minimised.
Direct Pull vs Shear
Magnetic performance also changes according to load direction.
Direct pull occurs when the magnet is separated perpendicular to the target.
Shear loading occurs when the magnet is encouraged to slide parallel to the target surface.
Shear performance is influenced by:
- Surface friction
- Surface coatings
- Air gaps
- Installation orientation
- Mechanical leverage
- Vibration
For performance-critical products, testing should reproduce the actual installation conditions.
Bonding 3mm Neodymium Magnets
Adhesive bonding is one possible installation method for miniature disc magnets.
Before bonding:
- Confirm polarity
- Confirm magnetic orientation
- Clean the bonding surfaces
- Remove grease, dust and contamination
- Select an adhesive suitable for the actual magnet finish
- Provide appropriate dimensional clearance
- Avoid force-fitting
- Allow the adhesive to cure fully
The exact coating or plating has not been supplied, so adhesive compatibility with the actual magnet surface should be confirmed.
Polarity in 100-Piece Production Packs
Where these magnets are being installed into products in quantity, check polarity before permanent assembly.
Incorrect orientation can cause components intended to attract to repel instead.
A consistent polarity-checking procedure is particularly useful for:
- Batch manufacturing
- Paired magnetic closures
- Sensor assemblies
- Repetitive product assembly
- OEM manufacturing
Avoid Force-Fitting
Neodymium Iron Boron is hard but brittle.
Do not force these miniature magnets into undersized holes, slots or recesses.
Excessive pressure can cause:
- Chipping
- Cracking
- Fracturing
- Damage to the protective surface finish
Provide suitable clearance and use an appropriate retention method.
Do Not Machine Neodymium Magnets
These miniature magnets should not be modified using conventional machining processes.
Avoid:
- Drilling
- Cutting
- Grinding
- Crushing
- Filing
- Machining
Their extremely small dimensions and brittle NdFeB construction make mechanical modification impractical and likely to damage the magnets.
Compatible Target Materials
Neodymium magnets attract suitable ferromagnetic materials, including:
- Mild steel
- Iron
- Magnetic steel
- Compatible ferromagnetic components
They do not effectively attract inherently non-magnetic materials such as:
- Aluminium
- Copper
- Brass
- Plastic
- Timber
- Glass
Many stainless steel grades may also be weakly magnetic or non-magnetic.
Test the actual target where magnetic compatibility is important.
N50 Neodymium vs Ferrite Magnets
N50 neodymium provides significantly higher magnetic energy density than conventional ferrite material.
N50 neodymium is particularly useful for:
- Miniature components
- Space-constrained assemblies
- Sensors
- Electronics
- Precision mechanisms
- High magnetic performance relative to size
Ferrite magnets may be preferred for:
- More economical applications
- Larger magnetic components
- Applications benefiting from good natural corrosion resistance
- Situations where lower magnetic performance relative to size is acceptable
For extremely small components such as these 3mm x 1.5mm discs, high-energy neodymium material can provide important advantages where miniaturisation is required.
Permanent Magnetic Operation
These N50 disc magnets are permanent magnets.
They require:
- No electricity
- No batteries
- No charging
- No external power supply
Their magnetic fields remain continuously active during normal use.

Safety and Handling
These 3mm x 1.5mm neodymium disc magnets present a serious ingestion hazard due to their extremely small size.
Keep all magnets securely away from babies and children.
If multiple magnets are swallowed, they can attract to each other through body tissue and cause severe internal injuries. Suspected magnet ingestion requires urgent medical attention.
If incorporated into another product, the magnets should be securely retained so they cannot become detached during normal or foreseeable use.
Neodymium magnets can also attract rapidly to other magnets or ferromagnetic objects. Avoid uncontrolled collisions, which may cause the brittle magnetic material to chip or fracture.
Keep permanent magnets an appropriate distance from:
- Pacemakers and implanted medical devices
- Magnetic cards
- Magnetic storage media
- Magnetically sensitive instruments
- Sensitive electronic equipment
Please Note
This product contains 100 individual N50 Neodymium Disc Magnets, each measuring 3mm in diameter x 1.5mm thick.
The N50 designation identifies the Neodymium Iron Boron magnetic material grade and does not mean each magnet has a 50kg pull force.
No specific pull force, Gauss rating, coating or plating, magnetisation direction, pole configuration, dimensional tolerance or maximum operating temperature has been supplied and these specifications should not be assumed.
Actual magnetic performance depends on the N50 material properties, magnetisation configuration, magnetic circuit, target material, target steel thickness, contact area, surface condition, air gaps, load direction and installation geometry.
Because each magnet measures only 3mm x 1.5mm, these magnets are a serious swallowing hazard and must be kept securely away from babies and children. Where incorporated into another product, suitable measures should be taken to prevent the magnets from becoming detached.
Neodymium is a hard and brittle magnetic material. Avoid impact, force-fitting, drilling, cutting, grinding or machining.
The stated 3mm diameter x 1.5mm thickness describes the physical dimensions of each magnet and does not represent pull force, holding capacity or safe working load.
These magnets are not certified lifting equipment and should not be used for overhead or safety-critical lifting.

Surface Treatment
The most common coating for Neodymium magnets is Nickel + Copper + Nickel (Ni + Cu + Ni). This coating offers the magnet relatively good protection from corrosion and passive applications. If the magnet will be exposed to moisture or liquid then consider the use of an organic coating such as Epoxy. A hard wearing coating, Epoxy is suited to applications where the magnet will come under some friction or knocking.
Range and Tolerance
Magnets are readily available in Blocks, Discs, Cylinders & Rings. We specializes in the supply of short-run prototype magnets including Arc Segments, various magnetic orientations etc. If you need a magnet size that we don't carry in stock, submit a Design-a-Magnet enquiry for a quote on your custom magnet design.
Magnetic Properties
Neodymium magnets are offered in several different grades. The first section N30-54 has an operating temperature of up to 80 degrees. Most of our stock only goes up to N38. The second section, denoted with the "M" prefix after the grade has an operating temperature 100 degrees. After this the grades are "H", "SH", "UH" & "EH". In order for the magnet to withstand a higher operating temperature, during production more of the raw material PrNd is incorporated as these elements have a naturally occurring resistance to high temperatures.
