Neodymium Disc Magnet – 50.8mm x 12.7mm | N52

The Neodymium Disc Magnet – 50.8mm x 12.7mm | N52 is an ultra-high-performance rare earth permanent magnet engineered for applications requiring exceptional magnetic strength, reliability, and precision. Manufactured from premium N52-grade Neodymium Iron Boron (NdFeB)—one of the strongest commercially available magnet grades—this precision disc magnet measures 50.8mm (2 inches) in diameter and 12.7mm (½ inch) thick, making it ideal for heavy-duty industrial, engineering, manufacturing, research, and commercial applications.

Designed to deliver an extremely powerful magnetic field, this large N52 neodymium disc magnet provides outstanding holding force while maintaining a compact form factor. It is axially magnetised, meaning the north and south poles are located on the two flat circular faces, allowing maximum magnetic performance when mounted against a ferrous steel surface or paired with another magnet.

Protected by a durable nickel-copper-nickel (Ni-Cu-Ni) coating, the magnet offers excellent resistance to corrosion, oxidation, and everyday wear while maintaining a bright, polished finish suitable for demanding environments.

Whether you're building magnetic fixtures, automation systems, scientific instruments, magnetic separators, or specialised OEM equipment, the 50.8mm x 12.7mm N52 Neodymium Disc Magnet delivers industry-leading magnetic performance and long-term durability.

Why Choose a 50.8mm x 12.7mm N52 Neodymium Disc Magnet?

The 50.8mm x 12.7mm N52 Neodymium Disc Magnet is designed for applications where maximum magnetic performance is essential. Its large diameter provides a substantial magnetic contact area, while the 12.7mm thickness generates a deep, concentrated magnetic field capable of producing exceptional holding power across a wide range of industrial and commercial applications.

Manufactured from N52-grade neodymium, this magnet delivers significantly greater magnetic strength than lower-grade neodymium, ferrite, or ceramic magnets of similar dimensions. This allows engineers and manufacturers to create more compact, efficient, and reliable magnetic assemblies without compromising performance.

Its precision manufacturing, durable nickel plating, and exceptional magnetic energy make this magnet an excellent choice for demanding applications including magnetic lifting, industrial tooling, automation systems, research equipment, and custom engineering projects.

Please Note

This is an extremely powerful N52 rare earth magnet and should be handled with extreme care. Due to its exceptional magnetic strength, it can attract steel objects or other magnets suddenly and with considerable force, creating serious pinch hazards and potentially causing the magnet to chip or fracture if allowed to collide.

Maximum holding force is measured under ideal laboratory conditions using a clean, flat, thick mild steel surface with full face-to-face contact and a direct vertical pull. Actual magnetic performance will vary depending on the steel thickness, air gap, surface finish, operating temperature, mounting configuration, and direction of the applied load.

Keep away from children, as powerful magnets present a serious swallowing hazard. Keep away from pacemakers, implanted medical devices, sensitive electronic equipment, and magnetic storage media. Do not drill, machine, or strike the magnet, as neodymium is hard but brittle and may crack or shatter under excessive mechanical stress. Due to the high magnetic forces involved, protective gloves and eye protection are recommended during handling. For maximum service life, avoid prolonged exposure to corrosive environments or temperatures exceeding the recommended operating range for standard N52 neodymium magnets.

Surface Treatment

The most common coating for Neodymium magnets is Nickel + Copper + Nickel (Ni + Cu + Ni). This coating offers the magnet relatively good protection from corrosion and passive applications. If the magnet will be exposed to moisture or liquid then consider the use of an organic coating such as Epoxy. A hard wearing coating, Epoxy is suited to applications where the magnet will come under some friction or knocking.

Range and Tolerance

Magnets are readily available in Blocks, Discs, Cylinders & Rings. We specializes in the supply of short-run prototype magnets including Arc Segments, various magnetic orientations etc. If you need a magnet size that we don't carry in stock, submit a Design-a-Magnet enquiry for a quote on your custom magnet design.

Magnetic Properties

Neodymium magnets are offered in several different grades. The first section N30-54 has an operating temperature of up to 80 degrees. Most of our stock only goes up to N38. The second section, denoted with the "M" prefix after the grade has an operating temperature 100 degrees. After this the grades are "H", "SH", "UH" & "EH". In order for the magnet to withstand a higher operating temperature, during production more of the raw material PrNd is incorporated as these elements have a naturally occurring resistance to high temperatures.

The Pull Force listed for each magnet is based on lifting 10mm thick steel from a horizontal surface. Magnets on a vertical surface (of 10mm thick steel) are generally able to hold around only 30% of the pull force listed in the product description. This is due to the effects of gravity and the lack of friction between the surface and the shiny magnet. Read More
