Neodymium Disc Magnet – 50mm x 12.5mm | N38

Powerful, durable, and engineered for demanding applications, this Neodymium Disc Magnet measures 50mm in diameter x 12.5mm thick and is manufactured from premium N38-grade NdFeB (Neodymium Iron Boron) rare earth magnetic material. Offering exceptional magnetic strength in a compact disc profile, this permanent magnet is ideal for industrial, engineering, manufacturing, automation, research, and heavy-duty DIY projects.

Neodymium magnets are the strongest commercially available permanent magnets, delivering significantly greater holding power than ferrite, Alnico, or samarium cobalt magnets of comparable size. The combination of a 50mm diameter and 12.5mm thickness provides a large magnetic contact area and high magnetic energy, making this magnet well suited to magnetic holding, clamping, positioning, mounting, and separation applications.

This disc magnet is axially magnetised, meaning the magnetic poles are located on the two flat 50mm diameter faces. This orientation provides maximum face-to-face holding force when placed against a ferrous steel surface or integrated into custom magnetic assemblies.

Protected by a durable nickel-copper-nickel (Ni-Cu-Ni) coating, the magnet offers excellent resistance to corrosion and wear while maintaining a smooth, polished finish suitable for professional industrial use.

Why Choose an N38 Neodymium Disc Magnet?

The 50mm x 12.5mm N38 Neodymium Disc Magnet offers an excellent balance of size, strength, and versatility. Its substantial thickness provides increased magnetic energy, while the large disc face maximises contact area for secure holding and positioning. It is an ideal solution for industrial fixtures, magnetic clamping systems, automation equipment, and custom engineering projects where reliable, long-lasting performance is essential.

Please Note

This is a high-strength industrial magnet and should be handled carefully to avoid pinch injuries or damage caused by magnets snapping together. Holding performance is achieved under ideal conditions using a clean, flat, thick ferrous steel surface with full face-to-face contact. Actual magnetic strength will vary depending on the steel thickness, surface finish, air gap, and application.

Keep away from children, pacemakers, implanted medical devices, sensitive electronic equipment, magnetic storage media, and precision instruments. Avoid drilling, machining, excessive heat exposure, or heavy impacts, as these may permanently damage the magnet or reduce its magnetic performance.

Surface Treatment

The most common coating for Neodymium magnets is Nickel + Copper + Nickel (Ni + Cu + Ni). This coating offers the magnet relatively good protection from corrosion and passive applications. If the magnet will be exposed to moisture or liquid then consider the use of an organic coating such as Epoxy. A hard wearing coating, Epoxy is suited to applications where the magnet will come under some friction or knocking.

Range and Tolerance

Magnets are readily available in Blocks, Discs, Cylinders & Rings. We specializes in the supply of short-run prototype magnets including Arc Segments, various magnetic orientations etc. If you need a magnet size that we don't carry in stock, submit a Design-a-Magnet enquiry for a quote on your custom magnet design.

Magnetic Properties

Neodymium magnets are offered in several different grades. The first section N30-54 has an operating temperature of up to 80 degrees. Most of our stock only goes up to N38. The second section, denoted with the "M" prefix after the grade has an operating temperature 100 degrees. After this the grades are "H", "SH", "UH" & "EH". In order for the magnet to withstand a higher operating temperature, during production more of the raw material PrNd is incorporated as these elements have a naturally occurring resistance to high temperatures.

The Pull Force listed for each magnet is based on lifting 10mm thick steel from a horizontal surface. Magnets on a vertical surface (of 10mm thick steel) are generally able to hold around only 30% of the pull force listed in the product description. This is due to the effects of gravity and the lack of friction between the surface and the shiny magnet. Read More
