Neodymium Disc Magnet – 5mm x 1mm | N50 | Gold

Description

The Neodymium Disc Magnet – 5mm x 1mm | N50 | Gold is a miniature, high-strength rare earth magnet featuring a premium gold-coloured finish. Manufactured from N50 grade Neodymium Iron Boron (NdFeB), this compact permanent magnet delivers impressive magnetic performance relative to its exceptionally small size.

Measuring just 5mm in diameter and 1mm thick, this ultra-thin neodymium disc magnet is designed for applications where installation space is limited and a discreet magnetic fastening solution is required.

Its gold-plated finish provides an attractive metallic appearance, making it particularly suitable for craft projects, decorative applications, jewellery components, miniature closures, model making and precision assemblies where the magnet may remain visible.

The high-performance N50 magnetic grade offers greater magnetic energy potential than lower-grade neodymium materials of the same dimensions and magnetisation. This makes it a practical option for projects requiring magnetic attraction from a small, lightweight component.

Despite its miniature dimensions, this rare earth magnet can provide useful holding performance when correctly installed against a suitable ferromagnetic surface or an appropriately oriented opposing magnet.

The slim 1mm thickness makes it especially useful for low-profile applications such as paper crafts, miniature models, magnetic closures, decorative projects and custom magnetic assemblies.

Neodymium magnets, also known as rare earth magnets, NdFeB magnets, super strong magnets or permanent neodymium magnets, are among the strongest commercially available permanent magnets.

The N50 designation identifies the magnetic material grade and does not represent a pull force of 50kg. Actual magnetic holding performance depends on the magnet's dimensions, magnetisation direction, contact area, target material and operating conditions.

Also known as a 5mm gold neodymium magnet, 5mm x 1mm rare earth disc magnet, miniature gold-plated magnet, ultra-thin N50 magnet, small round neodymium magnet or gold-coated craft magnet, this product provides a versatile solution for projects requiring compact magnetic strength and a decorative finish.

Surface Treatment

The most common coating for Neodymium magnets is Nickel + Copper + Nickel (Ni + Cu + Ni). This coating offers the magnet relatively good protection from corrosion and passive applications. If the magnet will be exposed to moisture or liquid then consider the use of an organic coating such as Epoxy. A hard wearing coating, Epoxy is suited to applications where the magnet will come under some friction or knocking.

Range and Tolerance

Magnets are readily available in Blocks, Discs, Cylinders & Rings. We specializes in the supply of short-run prototype magnets including Arc Segments, various magnetic orientations etc. If you need a magnet size that we don't carry in stock, submit a Design-a-Magnet enquiry for a quote on your custom magnet design.

Magnetic Properties

Neodymium magnets are offered in several different grades. The first section N30-54 has an operating temperature of up to 80 degrees. Most of our stock only goes up to N38. The second section, denoted with the "M" prefix after the grade has an operating temperature 100 degrees. After this the grades are "H", "SH", "UH" & "EH". In order for the magnet to withstand a higher operating temperature, during production more of the raw material PrNd is incorporated as these elements have a naturally occurring resistance to high temperatures.

The Pull Force listed for each magnet is based on lifting 10mm thick steel from a horizontal surface. Magnets on a vertical surface (of 10mm thick steel) are generally able to hold around only 30% of the pull force listed in the product description. This is due to the effects of gravity and the lack of friction between the surface and the shiny magnet. Read More
