Neodymium Disc Magnet – 9.5mm x 3.2mm | N48SH | High Temperature

The Neodymium Disc Magnet 9.5mm x 3.2mm | N48SH | High Temperature is a premium rare earth permanent magnet that combines exceptional magnetic strength with outstanding resistance to elevated operating temperatures. Manufactured from N48SH-grade Neodymium Iron Boron (NdFeB), this high-performance disc magnet measures 9.5mm in diameter and 3.2mm thick, making it ideal for demanding industrial, automotive, electronic, and engineering applications where both powerful magnetic performance and thermal stability are essential.

With its N48SH magnetic grade, this disc magnet offers greater magnetic energy than lower-grade alternatives while maintaining reliable performance at operating temperatures of up to 150°C. This makes it an excellent choice for applications near motors, generators, heating systems, industrial machinery, and electronic equipment where conventional neodymium magnets may lose strength due to heat exposure.

The magnet is axially magnetised, meaning the north and south poles are located on the two flat circular faces, providing maximum holding force when mounted flat against a ferrous steel surface or stacked with other magnets.

Finished with a durable nickel-copper-nickel (Ni-Cu-Ni) coating, this magnet offers excellent resistance to corrosion, oxidation, and everyday wear while maintaining a smooth, polished appearance suitable for both industrial and commercial environments.

Why Choose an N48SH High Temperature Neodymium Disc Magnet?

The 9.5mm x 3.2mm N48SH High Temperature Neodymium Disc Magnet is designed for applications where both maximum magnetic strength and heat resistance are critical. Compared to lower magnetic grades, N48SH provides increased magnetic performance while retaining excellent stability at temperatures of up to 150°C, making it suitable for demanding industrial environments where standard neodymium magnets may experience permanent demagnetisation.

Its compact disc shape offers a generous magnetic contact area relative to its size, making it ideal for magnetic mounting, positioning, holding, sensing, and alignment systems where reliability and precision are essential.

Technical Specifications

  • Maximum Recommended Operating Temperature: 150°C
  • Coating: Nickel-Copper-Nickel (Ni-Cu-Ni)
  • Magnet Type: Permanent Rare Earth Magnet

Please Note

This is a high-strength rare earth magnet and should be handled with care. Strong neodymium magnets can attract steel objects or other magnets unexpectedly, creating pinch hazards or causing the magnet to chip or fracture if allowed to collide.

Maximum holding force is achieved under ideal conditions using a clean, flat, thick mild steel surface with full face-to-face contact. Actual magnetic performance will vary depending on the steel thickness, air gap, surface finish, mounting arrangement, and operating environment.

Although this N48SH magnet is engineered for continuous operation at temperatures of up to 150°C, exceeding this limit may result in permanent loss of magnetic strength. Keep away from children, pacemakers, implanted medical devices, sensitive electronic equipment, and magnetic storage media. Do not drill, machine, or strike the magnet, as neodymium is hard but brittle and may crack or shatter under excessive mechanical stress.

Surface Treatment

The most common coating for Neodymium magnets is Nickel + Copper + Nickel (Ni + Cu + Ni). This coating offers the magnet relatively good protection from corrosion and passive applications. If the magnet will be exposed to moisture or liquid then consider the use of an organic coating such as Epoxy. A hard wearing coating, Epoxy is suited to applications where the magnet will come under some friction or knocking.

Range and Tolerance

Magnets are readily available in Blocks, Discs, Cylinders & Rings. We specializes in the supply of short-run prototype magnets including Arc Segments, various magnetic orientations etc. If you need a magnet size that we don't carry in stock, submit a Design-a-Magnet enquiry for a quote on your custom magnet design.

Magnetic Properties

Neodymium magnets are offered in several different grades. The first section N30-54 has an operating temperature of up to 80 degrees. Most of our stock only goes up to N38. The second section, denoted with the "M" prefix after the grade has an operating temperature 100 degrees. After this the grades are "H", "SH", "UH" & "EH". In order for the magnet to withstand a higher operating temperature, during production more of the raw material PrNd is incorporated as these elements have a naturally occurring resistance to high temperatures.

The Pull Force listed for each magnet is based on lifting 10mm thick steel from a horizontal surface. Magnets on a vertical surface (of 10mm thick steel) are generally able to hold around only 30% of the pull force listed in the product description. This is due to the effects of gravity and the lack of friction between the surface and the shiny magnet. Read More
