Neodymium Magnetic Latch Kits | Max Force 14kg (30lbs)

Description

The Frenergy Magnets Neodymium Magnetic Latch Kits – Max Force 14kg (30lbs) provide a powerful and convenient magnetic fastening solution for cabinets, cupboards, access panels, storage compartments and custom enclosures requiring strong magnetic closure.

Featuring high-performance Neodymium Rare Earth magnetic technology, these magnetic latch kits are designed to help keep compatible doors and panels securely closed while allowing convenient manual opening when access is required.

With a specified maximum magnetic force of 14kg (30lbs), these latch kits offer a higher magnetic attraction rating than standard light-duty magnetic cabinet catches, making them suitable for appropriately designed applications requiring greater closure retention.

Neodymium magnets are recognised for their exceptional magnetic energy density, allowing powerful magnetic attraction to be achieved within relatively compact fastening systems.

Unlike traditional mechanical catches that rely on moving locking components, magnetic latches use permanent magnetic attraction to retain a door, panel or enclosure in its closed position.

When correctly installed, the magnetic component attracts a compatible ferromagnetic strike plate or appropriately oriented magnetic counterpart, creating a reusable magnetic connection.

The connection can be released by applying sufficient opening force, making magnetic latches particularly useful for cupboards, cabinets and access panels that require regular access.

The 14kg maximum force rating makes these Neodymium magnetic latch kits relevant to furniture manufacturing, workshop storage, industrial cabinets, display units, custom equipment enclosures and other applications requiring substantial magnetic retention.

These magnetic fastening systems can be incorporated into suitable timber, metal, plastic and composite assemblies when installed with compatible mounting hardware and an appropriate magnetic counterpart.

Correct alignment is essential to achieving effective magnetic holding performance. Air gaps, surface coatings, receiving materials and the direction of the applied force can all influence the strength of the magnetic connection.

The specified 14kg (30lbs) maximum force describes the magnetic attraction rating. It does not represent the maximum supported door weight, a guaranteed installed holding force or a certified safe working load.

Also known as Neodymium magnetic cabinet catches, Rare Earth magnetic door latches, 30lb magnetic catches, high-strength magnetic cupboard latches, magnetic access panel fasteners or magnetic closure kits, these products offer a practical alternative to conventional mechanical catches.

Whether you're upgrading cabinet closures, manufacturing furniture, securing an access panel or developing a custom magnetic fastening system, the Frenergy Magnets Neodymium Magnetic Latch Kits – Max Force 14kg (30lbs) combine powerful magnetic attraction, reusable fastening and convenient access.

Understanding the 14kg (30lbs) Maximum Force

The specified maximum magnetic force of 14kg (30lbs) describes the magnetic attraction rating of this latch kit.

A force of 14 kilogram-force is approximately equivalent to 137.3 newtons or 30.9 pounds-force. The product's advertised 30lbs rating is retained in its title.

This rating should not be confused with the maximum weight of a door or panel.

For example, when a magnetic latch is installed on a hinged cupboard door, the hinges support the door's weight while the magnetic catch helps resist opening.

The latch does not replace the hinges or other structural supports.

Actual magnetic retention depends on the installation conditions, and the stated maximum force should not be treated as a guaranteed holding force in every application.

What Affects the Actual Holding Force?

  • Alignment of the magnetic components

  • Air gaps between the contact surfaces

  • Steel thickness and composition

  • Surface coatings and finishes

  • Mounting position

  • Door geometry and opening direction

  • Vibration and movement

  • Installation quality

  • Temperature and environmental conditions

What Is a Neodymium Magnetic Latch Kit?

A Neodymium magnetic latch kit is a fastening system that uses permanent magnetic attraction to help keep doors, cupboards, cabinets or panels closed.

The magnetic component attracts a compatible ferromagnetic counterpart or appropriately oriented matching magnet.

When the door closes, magnetic attraction helps retain it in position.

When sufficient opening force is applied, the magnetic connection separates and the door can be opened.

Magnetic latches are particularly useful for applications requiring repeated access without a conventional mechanical locking mechanism.

How Do Neodymium Magnetic Latches Work?

Neodymium magnets generate a permanent magnetic field.

When the magnetic latch approaches a suitable steel strike plate or magnetic counterpart, the components attract one another.

This attraction helps keep the door or panel closed.

To open the door, the user applies sufficient force to overcome the magnetic attraction.

Once the components separate, the door or panel can move freely.

Important: The exact components and mounting arrangement have not been specified. Installation should follow the instructions supplied with the product.

Demagnetization Curves
Surface Treatment

The most common coating for Neodymium magnets is Nickel + Copper + Nickel (Ni + Cu + Ni). This coating offers the magnet relatively good protection from corrosion and passive applications. If the magnet will be exposed to moisture or liquid then consider the use of an organic coating such as Epoxy. A hard wearing coating, Epoxy is suited to applications where the magnet will come under some friction or knocking.

Range and Tolerance

Magnets are readily available in Blocks, Discs, Cylinders & Rings. We specializes in the supply of short-run prototype magnets including Arc Segments, various magnetic orientations etc. If you need a magnet size that we don't carry in stock, submit a Design-a-Magnet enquiry for a quote on your custom magnet design.

Magnetic Properties

Neodymium magnets are offered in several different grades. The first section N30-54 has an operating temperature of up to 80 degrees. Most of our stock only goes up to N38. The second section, denoted with the "M" prefix after the grade has an operating temperature 100 degrees. After this the grades are "H", "SH", "UH" & "EH". In order for the magnet to withstand a higher operating temperature, during production more of the raw material PrNd is incorporated as these elements have a naturally occurring resistance to high temperatures.

The Pull Force listed for each magnet is based on lifting 10mm thick steel from a horizontal surface. Magnets on a vertical surface (of 10mm thick steel) are generally able to hold around only 30% of the pull force listed in the product description. This is due to the effects of gravity and the lack of friction between the surface and the shiny magnet. Read More
