25mm OD x 6mm ID x 10mm High Ring Magnet

This N35 neodymium ring magnet measures:

  • 25mm outside diameter
  • 6mm inside diameter
  • 10mm height

The central 6mm opening creates an annular magnetic body that can be useful where another mechanical component needs to pass through the centre of the magnet.

The 10mm height gives this magnet a relatively substantial profile compared with thin ring magnets, making it suitable for appropriately designed magnetic and mechanical assemblies.

The stated dimensions describe the physical geometry of the magnet and should not be interpreted as a pull-force or safe working load.

N35 Grade Neodymium Magnet

This ring magnet is manufactured from N35 grade Neodymium Iron Boron.

N35 is a widely used neodymium grade that provides strong magnetic performance relative to its physical size and is suitable for a broad range of commercial, industrial and engineering applications.

N35 neodymium magnets can be useful where:

  • Strong permanent magnetism is required
  • Compact dimensions are important
  • A ring-shaped magnetic component is required
  • Magnetic performance needs to exceed that typically available from similarly sized ferrite magnets
  • A permanent magnetic field is required without electrical power

The N35 designation identifies the magnetic material grade. It does not mean the magnet has a 35kg pull force.

What Does N35 Mean?

The N35 designation refers to the grade of the Neodymium Iron Boron magnetic material.

The numerical grade relates to the material's maximum energy product and provides a useful way to classify different neodymium magnetic materials.

When magnets have equivalent dimensions, geometry and magnetisation configuration, higher neodymium grades can generally provide greater magnetic performance than lower grades.

However, magnetic grade alone does not establish:

  • Pull force
  • Surface Gauss
  • Safe working load
  • Magnetisation direction
  • Pole configuration

These depend on the complete magnetic design.

Neodymium Iron Boron Rare Earth Material

Neodymium Iron Boron is a high-performance rare earth permanent magnetic material used extensively in modern engineered products and magnetic systems.

NdFeB magnets are valued for their ability to provide strong magnetic properties from relatively compact dimensions.

Typical functions include:

  • Magnetic attraction
  • Positioning
  • Alignment
  • Sensing
  • Switching
  • Coupling
  • Product integration
  • Magnetic circuit development

This makes neodymium particularly useful where available installation space is limited.

6mm Central Through-Hole

This ring magnet features a 6mm inside diameter, forming a straight central opening through the 10mm height.

Depending on the finished assembly, the opening may provide clearance for:

  • Shafts
  • Rods
  • Pins
  • Tubes
  • Locating components
  • Housings
  • Mechanical guides
  • Other product components

However, the stated 6mm inside diameter should not automatically be interpreted as compatibility with a 6mm shaft, bolt, rod or tube.

Mechanical fit depends on the actual dimensions and tolerances of both components and the clearance required for the application.

Because neodymium is brittle, this magnet should not be force-fitted onto an oversized or excessively tight component.

Engineering and Mechanical Assemblies

The combination of a central opening and strong N35 magnetic material makes this ring magnet useful for integration into appropriately designed mechanical systems.

Potential applications include:

  • Equipment components
  • Positioning mechanisms
  • Alignment systems
  • Product housings
  • Rotating assemblies
  • Fixtures
  • Prototype machinery
  • Custom magnetic devices

The magnet should be appropriately supported within the finished assembly so it is not subjected to excessive mechanical stress.

Sensors and Instrumentation

Neodymium ring magnets are frequently incorporated into magnetic sensing systems.

Potential applications include:

  • Position detection
  • Proximity sensing
  • Hall-effect sensors
  • Reed switch activation
  • Magnetic switching
  • Instrumentation
  • Equipment monitoring

Performance in a sensor application depends on:

  • Magnetisation direction
  • Pole orientation
  • Magnetic field strength
  • Magnet-to-sensor distance
  • Sensor sensitivity
  • Installation geometry

The magnetisation configuration of this magnet has not been supplied and should be confirmed where field orientation is critical.

Positioning and Alignment

Ring magnets can be useful for magnetic positioning and alignment in product and mechanical assemblies.

Potential functions include:

  • Component locating
  • Repeatable positioning
  • Magnetic alignment
  • Assembly assistance
  • Fixture positioning
  • Prototype mechanisms

Where multiple magnets are used, polarity and orientation should be confirmed before permanent installation.

Magnetisation Direction

Neodymium ring magnets can be manufactured with different magnetisation configurations.

A ring magnet may potentially be:

  • Axially magnetised through its 10mm height
  • Diametrically magnetised across its diameter
  • Radially magnetised
  • Multipole magnetised
  • Manufactured with another specialised pole arrangement

The actual magnetisation direction and pole configuration have not been supplied for this product and should not be assumed from its ring shape.

Confirm the magnetic orientation where pole location or field direction is important.

Magnetic Coupling Applications

Ring magnets may be incorporated into magnetic coupling systems where their geometry and magnetisation configuration are suitable.

Potential applications include:

  • Contactless magnetic couplings
  • Rotating mechanisms
  • Positioning devices
  • Alignment systems
  • Prototype mechanical assemblies

The performance of a magnetic coupling depends on factors including:

  • Magnetisation direction
  • Pole arrangement
  • Magnet spacing
  • Number of magnets
  • N35 material properties
  • Mechanical geometry

No coupling force or torque should be inferred from the dimensions alone.

Magnetic Performance

Although this magnet is confirmed as N35 grade, practical magnetic performance depends on many additional factors.

These include:

  • N35 material properties
  • Magnetisation direction
  • Pole configuration
  • Magnetic circuit design
  • Target steel composition
  • Target steel thickness
  • Available contact area
  • Surface condition
  • Air gaps
  • Load direction
  • Mechanical leverage

No specific pull force or magnetic flux density in Gauss has been supplied.

These values should not be estimated from the N35 designation or physical dimensions alone.

N35 Does Not Mean 35kg Pull Force

The N35 designation does not mean this magnet has a 35kg pull force.

N35 identifies the magnetic material grade.

Pull force is a separate performance measurement that depends on the magnet's:

  • Geometry
  • Magnetisation
  • Target steel
  • Contact area
  • Air gap
  • Test conditions

Use a verified pull-force specification where magnetic holding capacity is important.

Direct Pull vs Shear Force

Where the magnet operates against compatible ferromagnetic steel, holding performance changes with load direction.

Direct pull occurs when the magnet is separated perpendicular to the target surface.

Shear loading occurs when the magnet is encouraged to slide parallel to the target.

Shear performance can be influenced by:

  • Surface friction
  • Contact quality
  • Surface coatings
  • Installation orientation
  • Air gaps
  • Mechanical leverage
  • Vibration

Test the finished assembly under realistic conditions where magnetic holding is important.

Air Gaps and Magnetic Attraction

Air gaps can significantly reduce the practical attraction of neodymium magnets.

Potential sources of separation include:

  • Paint
  • Powder coating
  • Adhesive
  • Plastic
  • Protective films
  • Dirt
  • Rust
  • Product housings
  • Mechanical clearance

For maximum practical magnetic attraction, unnecessary separation between the magnet and magnetic target should generally be minimised.

Target Steel Thickness

Where this magnet is used against steel, the properties of the target material influence magnetic performance.

Important factors include:

  • Steel composition
  • Steel thickness
  • Target dimensions
  • Contact area
  • Surface condition
  • Magnetic saturation

Very thin steel may not provide the same magnetic response as a suitably thick ferromagnetic target.

Testing against the actual target material is recommended for performance-critical applications.

Bonding a Neodymium Ring Magnet

This N35 ring magnet may be adhesively bonded into an appropriately designed housing or product assembly.

Before bonding:

  • Confirm magnetisation direction
  • Confirm polarity where multiple magnets are involved
  • Clean both bonding surfaces
  • Remove grease, dust and contamination
  • Select an adhesive compatible with the magnet's actual surface finish
  • Provide suitable dimensional clearance
  • Avoid force-fitting
  • Allow the adhesive to cure according to its instructions

The specific coating or plating has not been supplied, so adhesive compatibility with the actual magnet surface should be confirmed.

Avoid Force-Fitting Through the 6mm Hole

Neodymium Iron Boron is hard but brittle.

Do not force an oversized shaft, bolt, pin, tube or rod through the 6mm central opening.

Excessive mechanical pressure can cause the ring magnet to:

  • Chip
  • Crack
  • Split
  • Fracture

Provide suitable mechanical clearance based on the actual dimensions and tolerances of both components.

Do Not Machine Neodymium Magnets

Finished neodymium magnets should not be modified using conventional workshop methods.

Avoid:

  • Drilling
  • Cutting
  • Grinding
  • Crushing
  • Machining
  • Enlarging the central hole

These processes can damage the brittle NdFeB material and any protective surface coating.

If another inside diameter or overall geometry is required, use a magnet manufactured to the appropriate dimensions.

Compatible Target Materials

Neodymium magnets attract suitable ferromagnetic materials, including:

  • Mild steel
  • Iron
  • Magnetic steel
  • Compatible ferromagnetic components

They will not effectively attract inherently non-magnetic materials such as:

  • Aluminium
  • Copper
  • Brass
  • Plastic
  • Timber
  • Glass

Many stainless steel grades may also be weakly magnetic or non-magnetic and should be tested before relying on magnetic attraction.

N35 Neodymium vs Ferrite Ring Magnets

N35 neodymium and ferrite ring magnets offer different magnetic characteristics.

N35 neodymium ring magnets generally provide:

  • Higher magnetic performance relative to size
  • Strong magnetic properties from compact dimensions
  • Advantages in space-restricted systems
  • Suitability for sensors and engineered assemblies

Ferrite ring magnets generally provide:

  • Lower cost
  • Good natural corrosion resistance
  • Good resistance to demagnetisation
  • Suitability where larger magnet dimensions are acceptable

N35 neodymium is commonly selected where strong magnetic performance within a compact ring-shaped component is required.

Permanent Magnetic Operation

This N35 neodymium ring magnet is a permanent magnet.

It requires:

  • No electricity
  • No batteries
  • No charging
  • No external power supply

Its magnetic field remains continuously active during normal use.

Safety and Handling

Neodymium magnets can generate strong magnetic attraction and should be handled carefully.

Keep fingers clear when the magnet approaches another magnet or ferromagnetic steel surface. Sudden attraction can cause:

  • Pinching
  • Trapping injuries
  • Magnet collisions
  • Chipping
  • Cracking
  • Fragmentation

Neodymium is brittle despite its high magnetic performance. Avoid uncontrolled collisions and excessive mechanical pressure.

Keep powerful permanent magnets an appropriate distance from:

  • Pacemakers
  • Implanted medical devices
  • Magnetic storage media
  • Magnetic cards
  • Sensitive electronic equipment

Keep magnets securely away from children.

Please Note

This product is an N35 Neodymium Ring Magnet measuring 25mm outside diameter (OD) x 6mm inside diameter (ID) x 10mm high, manufactured from Neodymium Iron Boron (NdFeB) rare earth magnetic material.

The N35 designation identifies the magnetic material grade and does not mean the magnet has a 35kg pull force.

The 6mm inside diameter describes the physical size of the central through-hole and does not automatically indicate compatibility with a 6mm shaft, bolt, rod, tube or other component. Appropriate dimensional tolerances and mechanical clearance should be considered.

No specific pull force, Gauss rating, coating or plating, magnetisation direction, pole configuration, dimensional tolerance or maximum operating temperature has been supplied and these specifications should not be assumed.

Actual magnetic performance depends on the N35 material properties, magnetisation configuration, magnetic circuit, target material, target steel thickness, available contact area, surface condition, air gaps, load direction and installation geometry.

Neodymium is a hard and brittle magnetic material. Avoid impact, force-fitting, drilling, cutting, grinding or machining.

The stated 25mm OD x 6mm ID x 10mm H dimensions describe the physical geometry of the magnet and do not represent its pull force, holding capacity or safe working load.

This magnet is not certified lifting equipment and should not be used for overhead or safety-critical lifting.

Surface Treatment

The most common coating for Neodymium magnets is Nickel + Copper + Nickel (Ni + Cu + Ni). This coating offers the magnet relatively good protection from corrosion and passive applications. If the magnet will be exposed to moisture or liquid then consider the use of an organic coating such as Epoxy. A hard wearing coating, Epoxy is suited to applications where the magnet will come under some friction or knocking.

Range and Tolerance

Magnetic Properties

Neodymium magnets are offered in several different grades. The first section N30-54 has an operating temperature of up to 80 degrees. Most of our stock only goes up to N38. The second section, denoted with the "M" prefix after the grade has an operating temperature 100 degrees. After this the grades are "H", "SH", "UH" & "EH". In order for the magnet to withstand a higher operating temperature, during production more of the raw material PrNd is incorporated as these elements have a naturally occurring resistance to high temperatures.

The Pull Force listed for each magnet is based on lifting 10mm thick steel from a horizontal surface. Magnets on a vertical surface (of 10mm thick steel) are generally able to hold around only 30% of the pull force listed in the product description. This is due to the effects of gravity and the lack of friction between the surface and the shiny magnet. Read More
