Frenergy is one of Australia’s most trusted magnet suppliers. We have spent many years building a broad range of high quality magnets to meet our customer’s needs. This category of magnets groups together several different types of magnets including Ferrite magnets and Neodymium magnets. What they have in common is their magnetic strength, with each magnet capable of holding 10 - 20kgs.

The vast majority of these magnets are rare earth magnets and they come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Magnetic cylinders, magnetic discs and magnetic blocks are available here, along with some more unusual shapes like trapezoids.

Neodymium magnets are by far our most in demand product range and for good reason. These super strong magnets are quite surprising in their strength and should be handled with care. Since they were first developed and introduced to the market they have replaced Ferrite magnets and Samarium Cobalt magnets in many contexts. They are able to produce far more magnetic power than any other form of magnet of the same dimensions.

However Neodymium magnets do have their limitations. Rare Earth magnets have a far more limited operating temperature range than other types of permanent magnet. This means standard N grade Neodymium magnets are not well suited to high temperature environments. Their magnetic power will begin to fail if exposed to temperatures over 80oC.
Luckily there are specialty grades of Neodymium magnets that have been formulated to withstand higher temperatures. The highest of which is a grade able to operate at approximately 200oC.

Another key consideration when buying magnets online is their placement when in operation. Are they likely to be in an environment with high humidity or where there are other corrosive elements? If so, then it is important to choose a magnet coating that gives adequate protection to the Neodymium material.
Rare Earth magnets are formed by a sintering process that heats and compresses the powdered material to form a molded magnet. However the magnetic material itself is porous in nature and highly vulnerable to corrosion. As such, Neodymium magnets are plated in a range of different coatings that provide varying degrees of protection.

Neodymium magnet coatings

Rubber coated magnets such as the rubber coated P clamp pot magnet in this category are fantastic for outdoor applications. The internal magnet is encased in rubber that prevents any exposure to moisture and subsequent corrosion. Rubber not only protects the magnet inside, it also serves well to protect the ferrous surfaces it is applied to.
Cars, poles, shop fronts, or wherever surface you adhere this magnet to, will be safe from scratches and marks. The magnet can be attached, moved and removed without leaving any trace of its presence.

Nickel is the standard coating on Neodymium magnets. In actual fact Nickel coated magnets are three layers; Nickel, Copper, Nickel. The end result is a shiny silvery chrome appearance which is what is generally recognisable as a Rare Earth magnet. This is a far more aesthetically pleasing finish when compared to Ferrite magnets which are a dull dark grey colour.
Nickel coated magnets are well equipped to deal with indoor application with low ambient humidity. However if humidity is a factor then you may wish to consider other coatings such as Teflon, Gold or Plastic.

What are the best uses for magnets with a 10kg-20kg pull force?
At 10-20 kilograms in holding capacity, these magnets have a myriad of potential applications. They are the perfect strength of magnet for those looking to make use of ceilings and walls to store objects. Workshops and garages are the perfect place to utilise a magnet of this strength. The majority of objects being stored in this way are unlikely to be heavier than one or two magnets can secure.

The other key aspect that makes magnets of this strength popular is their ability to be handled. Care should always be taken when using magnets. However they are still within a strength range which is unlikely to pose a serious threat of injury. Customers are advised to wear protective gloves and follow the handling guide when using magnets of this strength.

There are various Pot magnets in this product range. They all come with a handy means of attaching the magnet to a non magnetic object. Pot magnets can be screwed, clipped, cable tied or bolted onto an object to create a strong and reliable bond. The magnet can then be adhered to any ferrous surface such as a steel beam or metal shelving unit.

The Pull Force listed for each magnet is based on lifting 10mm thick steel from a horizontal surface. Magnets on a vertical surface (of 10mm thick steel) are generally able to hold around only 30% of the pull force listed in the product description. This is due to the effects of gravity and the lack of friction between the surface and the shiny magnet. Read More
