Copper Wire

Frenergy has 14 types of Copper Winding Wire products in a range of gauges and diameters to suit your needs. Although Copper is virtually non-magnetic, it is highly conductive, malleable and is the most cost-effective and energy-efficient material for creating electromagnetic fields and transmitting electrical power. When electricity passes through a coiled copper wire it creates a magnetic field. This field can interact with either permanent magnets (which saves on electricity costs) or the opposing fields of other electrically charged coils in an electric motor or transformer, to create rotational movement and produce mechanical power. This relationship between electrically charged copper windings and permanent magnets, to create mechanical power, has been the basis for many of the time-saving power tools and electrically powered appliances we take for granted today.

Permanent Magnets, copper wire coils and batteries for a power source are commonly used in experiments and classroom demonstrations to explain how electric propulsion is generated inside electric motors.

The Pull Force listed for each magnet is based on lifting 10mm thick steel vertically. Magnets on a vertical surface (of 10mm thick steel)  are generally able to hold around 30% of the pull force listed due to the effects of gravity and the lack of traction between the surface and the shiny magnet.
