Ferrite magnets, also known as ceramic magnets, are a type of permanent magnet made from ferrite, a chemical compound consisting of ceramic materials and iron oxide (Fe₂O₃). Ferrite magnets are versatile, cost-effective, and used in countless applications. If you have a whiteboard or a fridge, you will almost certainly have one of our craft and fridge ferrite magnets holding everything securely in place. The unique combination of properties in ferrite magnets makes them suitable for a wide range of uses, from household items to industrial equipment.
The composition of ferrite magnets is typically a mixture of iron oxide and either strontium carbonate (SrCO₃) or barium carbonate (BaCO₃). Ferrite magnets have moderate magnetic strength compared to other types of permanent magnets like Neodymium magnets, but that doesn't mean ferrite magnets don't stack up. They have many advantages - ferrite magnets are relatively inexpensive to produce, making them a popular choice for many commercial and industrial applications. Ferrite magnets are resistant to corrosion, which makes them suitable for use in humid and harsh environments and they can operate at high temperatures without significant loss of magnetic properties.
Ferrite magnets are used in a vast array of application. You'll find them in loudspeakers and headphones due to their stable magnetic properties. Ferrite magnets are used in electric motors and generators, especially in automotive applications. Ferrite magnets are also employed in magnetic separation processes to remove ferromagnetic contaminants from materials. Ferrite magnets are used in magnetic assemblies and holding devices.
Where you'll almost always find ferrite magnets in toys, fridge magnets, and craft projects due to their low cost and effectiveness, and because they come in all sorts of shapes, sizes, and colours. Ferrite magnets don't pack the same punch as Neodymium magnets, so they are best suited to where high magnetic field strength is not critical.
