The Neodymium Cylinder Magnet – 5mm x 8mm | N42UH High Temperature is a compact, high-performance rare earth magnet designed for precision applications that require dependable magnetic strength in elevated-temperature environments. Manufactured from premium N42UH grade neodymium iron boron (NdFeB), this permanent magnet combines powerful magnetic performance with greater thermal stability than standard neodymium grades.

Measuring 5mm in diameter and 8mm long, this small cylinder magnet offers a useful elongated profile for installation inside drilled holes, housings, shafts, sensors, couplings, actuators, and other space-restricted assemblies. Its cylindrical geometry produces a balanced, symmetrical magnetic field that is particularly useful for locating, switching, sensing, alignment, and precision positioning applications.

The magnet is axially magnetised through its 8mm length, placing the north and south poles on the two circular end faces. Please Note

Although N42UH neodymium magnets provide greater temperature resistance than standard neodymium grades, they must still remain within their specified operating limits. Maximum suitable temperature can vary according to the magnet's dimensions, magnetic circuit, environment, coating, and application design.

Actual pull force will vary depending on the thickness, grade, finish, and condition of the mating steel. Air gaps, paint, coatings, uneven contact, misalignment, elevated temperatures, and sideways or peeling forces can significantly reduce magnetic holding performance.

Neodymium magnets are hard but brittle. Do not drill, cut, machine, weld, or allow the magnet to strike another magnet or steel surface, as it may chip, crack, or shatter.

Keep away from children, pacemakers, medical implants, magnetic storage media, electronic equipment, and other devices that may be affected by strong magnetic fields.

Surface Treatment

The most common coating for Neodymium magnets is Nickel + Copper + Nickel (Ni + Cu + Ni). This coating offers the magnet relatively good protection from corrosion and passive applications. If the magnet will be exposed to moisture or liquid then consider the use of an organic coating such as Epoxy. A hard wearing coating, Epoxy is suited to applications where the magnet will come under some friction or knocking.

Magnetic Properties

Neodymium magnets are offered in several different grades. The first section N30-54 has an operating temperature of up to 80 degrees. Most of our stock only goes up to N38. The second section, denoted with the "M" prefix after the grade has an operating temperature 100 degrees. After this the grades are "H", "SH", "UH" & "EH". In order for the magnet to withstand a higher operating temperature, during production more of the raw material PrNd is incorporated as these elements have a naturally occurring resistance to high temperatures.
