Neo Sample Pack Magnets – 32.99mm x 11.51mm x 50.8mm | N45 | Length Magnetised | Pack of 2 | REDUCED TO CLEAR
Description
The Neo Sample Pack Magnets – 32.99mm x 11.51mm x 50.8mm | N45 | Length Magnetised | Pack of 2 contains two high-performance Neodymium Iron Boron (NdFeB) rare earth block magnets, designed for engineering, manufacturing, prototyping, magnetic testing and specialised industrial applications.
Each rectangular magnet measures 32.99mm x 11.51mm x 50.8mm and is manufactured from N45 grade neodymium, providing high magnetic energy density in a compact, elongated block format.
Unlike conventional block magnets that may be magnetised through their thickness, these magnets are specifically length magnetised, meaning their north and south poles are located at opposite ends of the 50.8mm length.
This magnetic orientation makes them particularly useful for applications requiring a magnetic field aligned along the longest dimension of the magnet, including custom magnetic assemblies, magnetic coupling systems, positioning mechanisms, research projects and specialised equipment.
Supplied as a pack of two magnets, these components are suitable for testing magnetic configurations, evaluating prototype designs and developing custom magnetic systems.
REDUCED TO CLEAR: This product is offered at a clearance price, making it an opportunity to purchase N45 rare earth magnets for suitable projects while remaining stock is available. Customers planning ongoing production should consider future availability before incorporating these magnets into permanent product designs.
Also known as N45 neodymium block magnets, length magnetised rare earth magnets, longitudinally magnetised magnets, NdFeB rectangular magnets or axial-length magnetic blocks, these permanent magnets provide reliable magnetic attraction without electricity or batteries.

Specialised magnetic applications
Suitability depends on the required magnetic field orientation, operating conditions and complete assembly design.
Length Magnetised Neodymium Block Magnets
One of the defining characteristics of these magnets is their length magnetisation.
The magnetic field is oriented along the 50.8mm dimension, with the north and south magnetic poles located at opposite ends of this length.
This differs from block magnets magnetised through their thickness, where the poles are positioned on the larger opposing faces.
Why Is Length Magnetisation Important?
Magnetisation direction influences how a magnet interacts with other magnets, ferromagnetic materials and magnetic sensors.
Length magnetisation can be useful when:
-
Magnetic poles are required at opposite ends of an elongated component
-
A longitudinal magnetic field is needed
-
The magnet is incorporated into a specialised magnetic circuit
-
Magnetic interaction is required along the length of an assembly
-
A custom magnetic coupling or positioning system is being developed
Important: A length magnetised block magnet should not automatically be substituted for a thickness magnetised block magnet of the same dimensions.
Although the physical dimensions may be identical, the magnetic field orientation and performance within an assembly can be significantly different.
N45 Grade Neodymium Magnets
These magnets are manufactured from N45 grade Neodymium Iron Boron, a high-performance rare earth permanent magnetic material.
N45 provides high magnetic energy density, making it useful for applications requiring substantial magnetic performance from relatively compact components.
What Does N45 Mean?
N45 identifies the magnetic material grade and relates to its maximum energy product.
It does not mean:
-
45kg pull force
-
45kg lifting capacity
-
45 Gauss
-
A guaranteed holding force
-
A safe working load
The actual magnetic performance depends on the magnet's geometry, magnetisation direction, magnetic circuit, target material and operating conditions.
Elongated Rectangular Magnet Design
Each magnet measures 32.99mm x 11.51mm x 50.8mm, providing an elongated rectangular profile.
This geometry may be useful for:
-
Custom equipment housings
-
Mechanical assemblies
-
Magnetic alignment systems
-
Prototype mechanisms
-
Industrial fixtures
-
Research equipment
-
Specialised magnetic circuits
The 50.8mm length is particularly important because it defines the magnetisation axis.
When integrating these magnets into an assembly, designers should account for the magnetic pole positions at the opposite ends of this dimension.
Pack of Two – Ideal for Prototyping and Testing
This product is supplied as a pack of two individual magnets, making it convenient for evaluating magnetic interactions between matching components.
Potential uses include:
-
Testing attraction and repulsion
-
Evaluating magnetic alignment
-
Comparing magnetic configurations
-
Developing prototype assemblies
-
Researching magnetic field behaviour
-
Testing custom mechanical designs
When using both magnets together, check their pole orientation before assembly.
Depending on how they are positioned, the magnets may attract or repel each other.
Magnetic Performance
The magnetic performance of these N45 block magnets depends on several factors, including:
-
N45 magnetic material properties
-
Magnet dimensions
-
Length magnetisation
-
Magnetic pole orientation
-
Target material
-
Target steel thickness
-
Contact area
-
Surface coatings
-
Air gaps
-
Magnetic circuit design
-
Operating temperature
-
Load direction
No specific pull force or surface Gauss rating has been supplied for this product.
These values should not be assumed from the N45 grade or physical dimensions alone.
Direct Pull vs Shear Force
Magnetic holding performance varies depending on the direction of the applied force.
Direct pull occurs when the magnet is separated perpendicular to the attracting surface.
Shear force occurs when the magnet is encouraged to slide parallel to the surface.
Because these magnets are length magnetised, their pole positions and orientation relative to the target are particularly important when evaluating holding performance.
Actual performance should be tested in the intended assembly.
Magnetic Air Gaps
Magnetic attraction decreases as the distance between interacting magnetic components increases.
Potential sources of air gaps include:
-
Paint
-
Adhesive
-
Plastic housings
-
Protective coatings
-
Mechanical clearance
-
Surface irregularities
-
Non-magnetic spacers
For magnetic assemblies requiring strong interaction, unnecessary air gaps should be minimised.
Engineering and Industrial Applications
Length magnetised neodymium blocks may be useful in specialised engineering applications where the direction of the magnetic field is a critical design requirement.
Examples include:
Magnetic positioning: Incorporating magnetic attraction into alignment and locating systems.
Custom magnetic circuits: Developing assemblies requiring specific pole orientations.
Product development: Evaluating magnetic performance during prototype design.
Research and testing: Studying magnetic field behaviour and interactions between permanent magnets.
Mechanical assemblies: Integrating permanent magnetic components into specialised equipment.
The suitability of the magnet for each application should be confirmed through engineering assessment and practical testing.
Bonding and Installation
Neodymium magnets may be secured within suitable housings using compatible adhesives or other appropriately designed retention methods.
Before installation:
-
Confirm the 50.8mm magnetisation axis.
-
Identify the north and south pole positions.
-
Check the intended attraction or repulsion arrangement.
-
Clean the bonding surfaces.
-
Select an adhesive compatible with the magnet's actual coating.
-
Provide suitable dimensional clearance.
-
Avoid excessive clamping pressure or force-fitting.
-
Allow the adhesive to cure according to the manufacturer's instructions.
The exact coating or plating of these magnets has not been specified, so adhesive compatibility should be confirmed before permanent installation.
Compatible Magnetic Materials
These neodymium magnets attract suitable ferromagnetic materials, including:
-
Iron

Compatible ferromagnetic components
They do not effectively attract inherently non-magnetic materials such as:
-
Aluminium
-
Copper
-
Brass
-
Plastic
-
Timber
-
Glass
Some stainless steel grades are magnetic, while others may be weakly magnetic or non-magnetic.
Neodymium vs Ferrite Magnets
Neodymium magnets provide significantly higher magnetic energy density than conventional ferrite magnets.
N45 neodymium magnets are particularly useful for:
-
Compact high-performance magnetic assemblies
-
Custom engineering applications
-
Specialised magnetic field configurations
-
Space-constrained designs
-
Research and prototyping
Ferrite magnets may be preferred for:
-
Lower-cost magnetic applications

Compliance & Safety
Neodymium magnets are extremely strong relative to their size and must be handled carefully.
Brittle Material: Neodymium Iron Boron is hard but brittle. Magnets can chip, crack or fracture if dropped, struck or allowed to collide.
Pinch and Crush Hazards: These magnets may attract rapidly to each other or nearby ferromagnetic objects. Keep fingers and skin clear of closing gaps.
Do Not Machine: Avoid drilling, cutting, grinding or modifying the magnets. Mechanical processing can cause fractures, damage protective coatings and create hazardous debris.
Medical Devices: Keep magnets at an appropriate distance from pacemakers, implanted medical devices and other magnetically sensitive equipment.
Children: Keep magnets securely away from children. Swallowed magnets can cause serious internal injuries and require urgent medical attention.
Lifting Applications: These magnets are not certified lifting equipment and must not be used for overhead or safety-critical lifting.

Surface Treatment
The most common coating for Neodymium magnets is Nickel + Copper + Nickel (Ni + Cu + Ni). This coating offers the magnet relatively good protection from corrosion and passive applications. If the magnet will be exposed to moisture or liquid then consider the use of an organic coating such as Epoxy. A hard wearing coating, Epoxy is suited to applications where the magnet will come under some friction or knocking.
Range and Tolerance
Magnets are readily available in Blocks, Discs, Cylinders & Rings. We specializes in the supply of short-run prototype magnets including Arc Segments, various magnetic orientations etc. If you need a magnet size that we don't carry in stock, submit a Design-a-Magnet enquiry for a quote on your custom magnet design.
Magnetic Properties
Neodymium magnets are offered in several different grades. The first section N30-54 has an operating temperature of up to 80 degrees. Most of our stock only goes up to N38. The second section, denoted with the "M" prefix after the grade has an operating temperature 100 degrees. After this the grades are "H", "SH", "UH" & "EH". In order for the magnet to withstand a higher operating temperature, during production more of the raw material PrNd is incorporated as these elements have a naturally occurring resistance to high temperatures.
